Odgis + Co is proud to share with you the Sage Corporate Responsibility Report, which we had the pleasure of designing.

The design of this report brings the Sage experience to life through an elevated, modern, and refined visual language: expressed through thoughtful photography and a compelling visual narrative, curated as carefully as the Sage experience itself. This report reflects how that same sense of responsibility, purpose, and operational rigor informs Sage’s commitment to sustainability, community, and integrity, guiding decisions today and into the future.

International Women’s Day (IWD) on March 8 honors the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women—and reminds us how much we gain from one another’s leadership and mentorship.

Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working with brilliant women, including Toni Morrison and Julia Child. Today, I celebrate them alongside the remarkable women I work with every day, including our clients and the talented team at Odgis + Co.

Early in my career, my longtime friend and mentor Barbara Plumb took me under her wing when I was a junior designer at Random House. Barbara was a celebrated editor at Pantheon Books who assigned me to design coffee table books and museum publications for her authors. She also introduced me to leading designers and architects. At the time, she was also the Living Editor at Vogue and the author of several acclaimed books on interior design and photography. She opened doors and set a standard for excellence that still guides me.

Toni Morrison was an acquiring editor at the time, and I had the honor of designing covers for some of the books she brought into the world. Toni poured her heart and soul into everything she did. She later became one of America’s most celebrated novelists, winning both the Nobel Prize and the Pulitzer Prize. Her novel Beloved was adapted into a film starring Oprah Winfrey and Danny Glover, and she received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Barack Obama.

When I first started Odgis + Co, I was asked to design Julia Child’s classic cookbook, The Way to Cook. Julia taught me a crucial lesson about the user experience. She insisted that the step-by-step instructions and images always appear on the same page as the recipe. Words and images had to work together to create something greater than the sum of their parts, just like a delicious meal. Her book wasn’t simply an instruction manual; it was a collection of stories, each building on the last so the reader could truly understand the underlying principles of cooking.

I carry the lessons of these remarkable women with me every day. Fearless ideas, clear storytelling, and generous mentorship have shaped my path, and continue to shape our work.

We are delighted to have a project we worked on featured in Artnet's "The Most Anticipated Museum Openings in 2026", along with other very prestigious museums around the world.

Odgis + Co created the brand identity for Canyon, a new museum dedicated to showcasing time-based media. The name Canyon serves as a metaphor for time—formed over millennia. It evokes a spirit of exploration, contemplation, and the rare opportunity to slow down and "pause" in the heart of New York City.

Odgis + Co branded Ophirex, a Public Benefit Corporation pioneering the first oral treatment for venomous snakebites. A subtle texture inside the “O” of the new logo suggests movement and depth, while a teal-to-green gradient evokes the natural hues of snakes in their environment. The custom wordmark introduces nuanced shifts of green, echoing the snake’s ability to camouflage and stay hidden. The rounded, flexible typography reinforces the fluid, sinuous qualities of the reptile itself, creating a mark that feels dynamic, modern, and deeply aligned with the brand’s purpose.

DESIGN IS ESSENTIAL TO HUMAN HAPPINESS
The great Paul Rand, my teacher, once said in a critique: "The difference between a good painting and a great one is the composition." The arrangement of positive and negative space, and the placement of the elements, makes all the difference. Most people don't consciously realize what they perceive to be beautiful is actually a balance of great proportions, balanced in space.

For me, design encompasses the experiences of seeing, tasting, touching, hearing, smelling and feeling. If that wasn't enough, it also filters through everything we think, remember, and repeat. To put it simply, design is not only how something looks but how it works, and what it enables.

Design affects us at all levels of consciousness; it's what we wear, the tools we use, the food we eat, our home and work environments, our entertainment. It affects our decision-making in more ways than we consciously realize. Design influences behavior, encouraging people to develop preferences and familiarity. It creates brand loyalty. "Design is everything," said Paul Rand.

I consider myself a highly aesthetic person, and I use my awareness of this in my work. Successful designers are, by definition, businesspeople; but first and foremost they're creatives who operate according to a set of principles. We spend every day obsessed with design.

German industrial designer Dieter Rams is known not only for his iconic product designs for Braun, but also his ten principles of good design, which are much-cited by designers from all disciplines. (Rams had a sizable influence on a number of famous creators, including Apple's Jonathan Ive, who crafted the look of the iPhone and iPad.) In Rams' mind, good design:
• Is innovative
• Makes products useful
• Is aesthetic
• Makes a product understandable
• Is unobtrusive
• Is honest
• Is long-lasting
• Is thorough down to the last detail
• Is environmentally friendly
• Is as little design as possible
The above principles apply to some degree to all designers, whether or not they create physical products. A Website or logo has the same responsibilities as a chair or phone with regard to honesty, longevity, aesthetic quality, and innovation. Design isn't just about how something looks; it's how it works, by conveying a message and making things understandable.

If the designer succeeds at applying their principles to the project, the resulting design shouldn't stand out in a way that seems off-putting; rather, it should feel inevitable and natural--as if it could have been accomplished in no other way. Or as Rams himself once put it: "Good design is as little design as possible."
