Here's a deeper dive into the stellar beers we had at Grunting Growler in Glasgow with Epicbeertrips.com! This curated lineup was the perfect variety with something from everyoneโand took you out of your comfort zone a bit.
Newbarns Brewery is based in Leith, port area north of Edinburgh. This light beer with plenty of body and flavor was certainly a crowd-pleaser on a warm Scottish day! Fermented with a German lager strain and hopped with UK Admiral and UK Challenger hops from Brook House Hops in Herefordshire for a pronounced hop character.
Next up, Otherworld Brewing Chimera Belgian Pale Ale. The artwork really shines but the beer can hold its own. A Belgian inspired pale ale hopped with Centennial, Strisselspalt, Saaz and Saphir for a tangy bitter orange flavor.
Vault City Brewing was hyped by plenty of locals and for good reason. This Strawberry Margarita Gose Table Sour was a nice balance of tart, sweet, refreshing, and salinity. There was an incredible amount of flavor for a 3% ABV beer!
Beak x Overtone Brewing Co collab?! Yes, please! I've throughly enjoyed both of these brewery's IPAs and this mash up didn't disappoint. Tones DIPA is described as a big and bouncy Double India Pale Ale is utterly saturated in Simcoe, Mosaic and Motueka for flavours of blueberry, pine, tangerine and strawberry bubble-gum.
And for my personal fav... Simple Things Fermentations Big Ideas British Strong Ale. Is a Scottish Tripel a thing? Now it is. They describe it as sitting somewhere between ESB and barley wine, what we have here is akin to a Scottish Tripel. What I loved about trying this beer is I wouldn't normally order it. But that's what it's all about. Trying new things and having some fun.
Huge thanks to Jehad and his wife at Grunting Growler for the hospitality and knowledge share! Cheers to Captain Kurt and Epicbeertrips.com for another awesome Heart of Scotland trip!
