Came up on this root circle yesterday and it drew me into contemplation.

The circle represents the notions of totality, wholeness, original perfection, the Self, the infinite, eternity, timelessness, all cyclic movement, even God/the Divine/Great Spirit as the center without end.

When are you most in your totality, whole, the center of your being?

This summer I teamed up with I Film NY to create a sound bath meditation based on the sounds of nature for a corporate client.

Think of rhythmic, calming footsteps on the earth, birdsong, gentle breezes, crickets, peepers, a campfire, and a few other sweet surprises. I'm there all along to gently guide your way.

We had over 200 employees show up for this online immersion into the sounds of nature as a powerful tool for meditation, bringing peace, clarity and a sense of ease and harmony with ourselves and the world. Experiencing these sounds with focus brings us into deep, supportive contact with our own sense of being.

When I shared with about it, they got so excited about the power of this experience as an antidote for the cabin fever of winter, we decided to make it available to their donors and set a date to offer it.

January 31th at 4PM, you can join us online for this "holistic happiest" hour, a powerful, uplifting auditory and somatic experience.

We haven't officially announced it yet, the announcement goes out next week and it's sure to fill up. If you'd like us to save you a spot, PM me here and I'll get in touch to make sure you get the details.

It's funny - we just got off the phone with a VC firm we work with about exactly this. They do 360 evaluations to assess how people experience the culture, but they don't tie it back to "performance" (ie. compensation) and struggle with the fact that the input can be a bitchfest of unexpressed slights that have happened throughout the year.

Wanna clean up the picture?

Make how you treat each other an actual KPI with impact on reward/recognition and create a mechanism to measure and act on it real time.

Train people on how to give feedback and why asking for it consistently is a career game-changer.

That's what healthy families, couples and even friends do. We do it in business relationships. That way things don't boil up and become a huge energetic drain on what the relationship is really about - functioning.

PS. I think the editorial team went wonky on how they quoted me, but you'll get the gist.

Taking a creative approach to maintaining personable business relationships is just as important.

How often do you stub your toe? Look bad? Have egg on your face?

As a leader if you're blanching at the idea if the above, chances are you're playing it too safe, in doing so limiting the organization's ability to move forward.

and Tevis had a great time diving into Fostering Greatness on Leadership, exploring the gap of what we perceive and reality when it comes to leading NOW.

CEO as the chief cultural officer and what that means

Identifying your values as a company and examining whether those values are being expressed or acted upon

Going slow so you can move fast when defining a corporate culture

Connecting culture to KPI’s to have measurable actions

Forgetting employee engagement and focusing on executive alignment

Making your employees feel seen and heard as the most effective way to engage them

While the clip is all about the power of slowing down, the conversation is all about helping your entire team level up their performance.

Tell me: How do you ensure you and those who report to you are at their very best?

So thrilled to share this conversation with Gilliland.

Our topic is happiness...that lifelong quest.

The conundrum of the pursuit is the embedded habit of discontent...our propensity to move immediately from whatever great moment has happened to "ok, what's next?".

Give yourself a moment to dive in with us. You'll be glad you did.

Employee Well-Being Depends on the Work Environment.

The world is finally figuring out that employee well-being isn't just teaching them to eat whole foods. Or giving them HeadSpace subscriptions. Or a yoga session in a conference room. Those things are nice hallmarks, but on their own, they won't get employees to feel safe to take care of themselves over the course of their workday.

Working with organizations to create well-being programs, and I realized this truth and began agitating for a shift at the causal level of employee malaise: human-hostile attitudes and business practices. Beyond the impact on insurance claims, it costs organizations big time to ignore that needed shift - to the tune of a 10% differential in productivity, market performance, client and employee retention.

Don't take it from us. Check out what Harvard Business School found out about this situation in their piece entitled Employee Well-being, Productivity, and Firm Performance: Evidence and Case Studieshttps://s3.amazonaws.com/ghwbpr-2019/UAE/GH19_Ch5.pdf

A simple start? Make it culturally safe for employees to have that walking meeting...or even just take a 10-minute walk rather than frantically scrolling their emails between meetings.

Carpe diem.

That's what my heart is reminding me this morning.

I've had a magical weekend all because a couple of friends spoke up. They spoke up knowing that my house was recently broken into and that the loss of sleep and the introduction of unprecedented worry has had me at odds with life.

My instinct was to hunker down even with this worry, stay put, get through it, as is my way.

But sometimes it takes the love found in community to turn from primal instinct, to pivot towards allowing oneself to be supported. To be loved.

Waking up in a dear friend's house in Montauk, excited for having been surrounded by so much love, I headed to the beach in the wee hours determined to greet the day in its first moments, surrounded by the energy and song of crashing waves.

Happy Monday everybody.

Let's enjoy a magical week.
