The lighting throughout the space was designed to reinforce the architectural concepts while supporting comfort and functionality.

“A choregraphed experience of light, landscape, and sculpture.”

Our work on the World War I Memorial in Washington, DC was recently featured in an article by David Shiller in the IES’s LD+A magazine, exploring the design process behind thoughtfully integrated light with the landscape and the sculpture.

The goal with this special project was to create a seamless blend of urban refuge and sculpture park. We wanted to shield the Memorial from the distractions of the city so that visitors could find a place of peace and reflection.

Jin Mao Tower | Shanghai, China

Today, 8/8, we get to celebrate Jin Mao tower where architecture, culture, and light come together in perfect harmony.

In Chinese culture, the number 8 is a symbol of success and good fortune. The Jin Mao tower was designed with 88 stories bringing this symbol to life with architectural expression. Our lighting design illuminates the distinctive tiered level form that is iconic to the Shanghai skyline.

What Design Gets Wrong About $$$

FMS founder, Charles Stone, sat down with LytePOD in June to discuss what designers actually sell, what makes a practice last, and the one question he’s asked every junior designer for four decades.

A few takeaways from the hour-long engaging conversation: Designers consistently give away their most valuable asset—accumulating expertise and judgement—by letting bad language normalize unpaid scope. The thing clients are actually paying for isn’t drawings or hours; it’s magic that on one else can provide, and the business of design only works when you charge accordingly.

Pittsburgh International Airport Named One of the World’s Most Beautiful Airports by Prix Versailles

We are honored to see Pittsburgh International Airport recognized by Prix Versailles as one of the World’s Most Beautiful Airports for 2026. Inspired by the landscape surrounding Pittsburgh, the lighting draws from the city’s deep connection to nature. The twinkling fiber optic lights, designed in collaboration with STUDIOFRACTAL, are woven throughout the ceiling to create a celestial experience for travelers and emphasize the sense of place from the moment they approach the terminal.

“Building Relevancy in Micropolitan America” Encore Series hosted by Mid-Atlantic Association of Museums.

Larry Kirkland Sculpture “Frisco Flyer” | FC Dallas Soccer Complex

What a kick to learn that the FC Dallas Soccer Complex has been chosen as one of the base camps for the . FMS designed the transitional illumination of the “Frisco Flyer” sculpture in the complex to provide a sense of motion that reflects the swift nature of the soccer players that help bring their teams to victory .
