Grassroots Tennis Killed USA Champions!

In my opinion, the biggest factor that happened to hurt American tennis was the push towards grassroots tennis and taking tennis out of the clubs. How many champions have been developed in Europe who grew up playing in the public parks? Additionally, the push to move all or most small USTA pro circuit events to public facilities to play on hardcourt after Connors and McEnroe lost the Davis Cup to Sweden, contributed tremendously to young American professionals to be incapable to play on other surfaces besides fast hardcourt, IMPO.

With so much tennis being played outside of country clubs where tennis etiquette and the where the sport is for the elite--which means that there are much higher standards and much more positive peer pressure,--tremendously hurt the quality of those who play, as well as the industry. Tennis professionals are paid less, relatively, because any clown with a basket can run up to a public court and claim to be a tennis professional.

There are videos out there where severely overweight and very young so-called tennis professionals mouth off about how great they are, how great their system is, and that if you just buy a book or a chart for X amount of dollars, you'll have all the answers to develop a junior champion! Back in the day, you'd be too embarrassed to even do that!

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

BREAKING:

Naomi Osaka has officially withdrawn from the Australian Open.

After her last match, Naomi shared that she made the tough call to step away and focus on an issue her body needs care for. She doesn’t want to risk further injury and is a healthy return to the court. Is that really the truth or did the last incident on court instigate cause and effect?

No Space to Hit Into/No Weaknesses to Attack

Think about that! If that's the case, what do you do? Here are some possibilities:

-Rush his rhythm; play fast, taking little time in between points.
-Slow down his rhythm; take maximum time between every point. Towel off frequently.
-Make it a tactic to hit every single shot with a different ball quality from the previous shot.
-Since you can't beat him playing with who you are, use other tactics to beat him with what you have, even if it is emotionally uncomfortable for you.

Example: serve and volley on first serves, selectively serve and volley on second serves, go for broke on first serve returns, and chip - n - - charge or rush - n - crush on second serves. Do this from the jump. Thus, he will have no rhythm. When he starts to talk to his team, change it up and play your game. As soon as he starts to get a little bit of a rhythm, mix it up. Mix it up by playing the score. If you're ahead, play your regular game. If you're equal or behind, use the prescribed tactic.

-Take something off your first serve and get 100% of them in. That keeps him conservative. Players attack second serves but a majority of players return first serves with the mindset of just getting it in the court. Keep doing so until he starts to attack you first serve. Then, you have to go back to your normal, first serve, second serve--regardless of your percentages.

-Not counting the serve, do not hit more than two ground strokes whether your second groundie is hit as a winner, in or out, or get to net after the first or second shot off the ground. This is another way to keep your opponent guessing as well as reducing their ability to feel comfortable and get rid of them.

-I have other tactics in mind, but this one worked for one champion exceptionally well! Create a controversy. It doesn't matter if you lose a point or get a warning. Do it when you way behind in score. Be willing to lose that game or that set if you're that far behind against someone who has zero holes in their game. If the match is played without an umpire, this will certainly unnerve your opponent. If it is played with an umpire and you drag it out, it takes them out of there focus and can change the momentum. Can you guess what champion used to do this frequently?

If you have any tactics to add, please comment!

Their Abilities & Ball Quality Cannot Compete!

Due to the way they hit the ball, the other young guys who are in their late twenties--Zverev, Tsitsipas, Medvedev, et al--who were supposed to be the ones who took over from the Big Three, can't compete. Those guys can be competitive in early arounds, but they are not beating these two guys in finals, ever!
