I’ll say it like it is — Frieze New York is a big, fancy art fair. Truly. I don’t know what was more exciting: the art, the people (and the BIG names in the art world), or all the Hermès quota bags out in the wild at the preview yesterday.

Going to art fairs can be draining…but going to them as an artist and not showing your work there yet can feel complicated.

You might assume you have to be a huge, established artist to show at a fair like this — but you’d be surprised how many emerging artists are exhibiting in the Focus section of Frieze.

Think of it as the “discovery” section of the fair. Collectors go there to find new talent and get in early before everyone else catches on.

So if you’re an artist who dreams of showing at a fair like this one day, spend time looking at this section closely. Pay attention to the scale of the work, the presentation, the energy, the pricing, and the conversations happening around the booths.

Because when you see it happening for other artists, your brain starts to realize it could happen for you too.

And sometimes, that’s where everything begins.

NADA is one of the most curated fairs. Most exhibiting galleries are voted into the New Art Dealers Association and have had to be in operation for at least 5 years. So, the caliber is HIGH but you can still *get in on the ground floor* as a collector because there are a great deal of emerging artists; who have shows, residencies, and a lot of accolades already.

***Artist Spotlight on Mariana Gomez***

Congratulations to Mariana Gomez on this incredible solo exhibition, Kardía on view through May 30 at Otros360 in Bogotá! And, for being on the FRONT PAGE of EL TIEMPO!!!!

After completing her MFA at Pratt Institute, Mariana continued to grow her career and won a scholarship to The Artist Academy™ in 2025. Here’s what she has to say about it:

“Working with Marina gave me not only the practical tools to navigate the art world—how to position my work, write statements, and connect with galleries—but, more importantly, it shifted my entire mindset. She showed me that integrating art and spirituality isn’t something to hide, but a powerful force to own. That inner shift (from doubt to deep self-trust and alignment) changed everything for me, and it’s what ultimately led me to achieve my first solo show after years of staying in the same place.

My biggest lesson: you can learn all the steps, but it’s the energy you hold about yourself and your work that truly opens the doors.”

I bet this one will push some buttons.

I know it can feel like other artists are getting selected when you’re not.

But here’s what no one talks about—there are also curators and gallerists not getting selected. It goes both ways.

And at the same time? There are so many artists showing, selling, and so many galleries that are actually thriving.

***That shift alone—realizing there isn’t a shortage, there’s demand—changes everything.***

Because when you start operating from that perspective, you move differently. You show up differently. You stop bracing for rejection and start expecting a YES.

And that’s when things begin to open up.

Because if you assume it’s all a garbage fire… you’re going to get garbage fire results.

Artist Spotlight: LOGAN KIRKPATRICK

I’m so proud of Logan Kirkpatrick.

Because just a few months ago…
she wouldn’t even turn her camera on during our calls.

And now?

“My face is on TV.”

That’s the text she sent me.

But let’s rewind.

When Logan first came into The Artist Academy in January 2025,
I couldn’t quite understand her work.

She told me she painted the “quiet season” in her lakeside town—
the part of the year when the seasonal residents leave.

Beautiful, yes.
But I knew there was more underneath.

There always is.

After the program, we started working together 1:1.

And that’s when it clicked.

Her work isn’t about quiet.

It’s about the quiet resilience of being alone—
not loneliness…

but aloneness.

The kind that comes from living with a chronic autoimmune illness.
The kind that comes from staying in a town that empties out each year.
The kind that asks you to sit with yourself… deeply.

And then there are the reflections.

In her paintings, water mirrors the world
but never quite truthfully.

Just like the subconscious.
Just like our inner lives.

What you see on the surface
isn’t always what’s really there.

The moment she allowed herself to own HER STORY, authenticity and truth…

everything changed.

Her following multiplied.
Her work started getting press.
Her story started spreading.

When I asked her what shifted, she said:

“For a long time, I thought parts of my story needed to stay quiet.
You helped me realize those are often the very things that allow the work to land.

Not by explaining more—
but by standing in it more fully.

That changed everything.”

And now?

She’s fully seen.
Fully expressed.
And yes… on TV.

Logan, I am so proud of you.
