PURPOSE
Spreading Love through Commerce

MISSION
Shades of Commerce is a resource for both the socially conscious consumer, and the women and/or minority entrepreneur, wishing to promote business enterprises through patronage, love and commerce. I am often asked, "What made you start Shades of Commerce?"

The impetus to create this website came from a desire to support minority-owned businesses,

organizations and service providers. How could I support someone, or something, that I could not find? After multiple dead-ends I assessed my dilemma and concluded that there was indeed a void in the consumer’s ability to easily access minority owned businesses. Instead of ignoring the problem I have decided to provide a solution: Shades of Commerce. I invite you to join me in building a robust network of savvy businessmen and businesswoman who are dynamic professionals within their industry. Many modern day comforts would not exist without the great minds of minority scientists, inventors, artists and public figures. Let us celebrate our past achievements and continue to build upon them by supporting one another through love and commerce.

The fight for equality continues. ✊🏽 It is not difficult to see that Black peoples hair is unique and requires corresponding maintenance. Not to mention the religious ties to having dreaded hair. And of course the double-standard, if a girl can learn with hair flowing down her back then so can a boy. There is no reason for the continued perpetuation that Caucasian hair styles are the ideal or standard. If you are confused as to why Black hair is different then educate yourself before engaging in discourse. The excuse, “that’s how it’s always been done” or “I don’t know what the big deal is” is based in ignorance and therefore it is unacceptable as a counterpoint. Stop policing Black hair and forcing assimilation!!! Time and resources would be better served figuring out how to increase teacher salaries, make lunches free for all, equal distribution of school supplies & resources, increased ratio of social workers & counselors per student …. So many more important things to worry about.
