The lighting design for the Seattle Aquarium Ocean Pavilion invites visitors on a journey of discovery through a carefully curated balancing act of natural light, electric lighting, and architecture.

Whereas most aquariums minimize natural light to create a more controlled environment, the Ocean Pavilion leverages daylight and electric lighting to aid in the narrative storytelling of the exhibits while creating an enduring sense of connectivity to the waterfront. Carefully orchestrated layers of light, including luminaires with custom LED color blends to support the health of aquatic life, work in tandem with projections to create an immersive visitor experience that delights, inspires, and educates.

To revitalize the iconic 1960s Century Plaza Hotel, the design team adapted and unified the modernism of the original building with common areas and amenities inspired by Japanese minimalist aesthetics and a restaurant inspired by the French Bistro style. The lighting design celebrates this journey through time, honoring the materials and details of each era.

Carefully crafted lighting solutions ensured that each area’s unique character was enhanced, while creating a seamless transition for visitors as they move from one space to another. The use of advanced controls allowed for adaptability and integration, crucial in creating ambiance and functionality across varying spaces.

A museum revitalized with a warm glow that blends modern upgrades with timeless charm.

This stunning renovation breathes new life into The Art Complex Museum. Subtle linear uplights were artfully placed above clerestory shelves, casting an inviting glow on the original timber roof and providing practical illumination and an effortless transition from day to night. Thoughtful handling of wattage and lighting layers ensured that the project met sustainability standards without compromising on the aesthetic vision. Read on for more: https://ow.ly/ANA850R1GL9

The Preserve South Beach celebrates the rich architectural history of the city’s signature Art Deco style with a modern glass façade and luminous cantilevered overhead slabs. The lush landscaping throughout the paseo and fourth level breezeway is accented by low level garden lighting, creating a nighttime resort-like ambiance for both employees and pedestrians. HLB paired the lighting with the architectural finishes, marrying the company’s hospitality roots with its strong corporate culture. Offices and meeting spaces were designed with sleek lines of light while employee lounges and reception areas carefully integrate lighting with the high-end wood ceiling, millwork, and stone walls.

Tucked away in a redwood forest, the revitalized campus stands as a luminous beacon within this woodland ecology.

The expansion reinvigorates Kresge College’s campus, originally built in 1973, with the addition of three residential halls and an academic center. The lighting design celebrates the architecture’s warm, sleek design to create a natural extension of the surrounding forest, all while integrating modern, energy-efficient lighting and controls.
