Today is the beginning of a weekend long Expo that Omerge has been planning for for the last six months -- The National Gun Violence Prevention Expo in one of my all-time favorite cities in the world - CHICAGO!

We feel grateful to do the work which we do. Work which is meaningful and gathers activists, intellectuals, community organizers, faith leaders and the general public to develop solutions to end gun violence.

Most grateful to the Dream Team of women I respect and know who were allies in bringing this event to life, Allyson Brown as Creative Director, Angela Carstarphen-Watford as Copywriter, Akosua Baah as Talent Liaison, and Malissa Anthony on the Youth Expo. All gratitude to each of them for their efforts, and Rubye Lane for the opportunity.

At this 2-Day Expo, national thoughtleaders & advocates will convene to explore the impact and change needed. Through carefully curated conversations, the Expo will explore bridging the badge with law enforcement, intimate partner abuse, sports & culture, women & Latinos in CVI and more.

There are times in life in which you get the opportunity to use your gifts for good.

And one of those times for Omerge Alliances is NOW.

Humbled, and proud to share that Omerge Alliances was selected by Strides for Peace as lead production firm for the inaugural National Gun Violence Prevention Expo, which will be held at the Hilton Chicago, September 24-26, 2027.

As you may know, over the years, we have created content strategy for large-scale conference & experiences including ESSENCE Festival of Culture, ESSENCE Wellness House, Cry Out Con, New York Theological Seminary, Ovia Health, Carol’s Daughter, and Andre Walker Hair. So, we’re equipped & prepared.

But what we were NOT prepared for was how rewarding it feels to be on the ground floor of change. To use our organizational skills, creativity and writing skills to create content to truly impact society. Gun violence affects many people’s lives. The culprits, via incarceration, and the victims, through loss of life or forever-altered life. At the 2-day Expo, thoughtleaders & advocates will convene to explore the impact and change needed in conversations about bridging the badge with law enforcement, intimate partner abuse, sports & culture, women & Latinos in CVI and more.

2 weeks out from our next event production has me and the Omerger elves deeply entrenched. So, this OTip! is one that we have to remind ourselves of daily. The creative process can be so much fun, but we must ensure we are developing and delivering an event experience of value and meaning to our audience, and of a high professional caliber to our thoughtleaders, host and participants.

All the liking & fanfare accompanying social media channels has many thinking popularity is the goal.

It's not.

In fact, research has shown that influencers with smaller followings, and higher engagement outperform influencers with larger followings and lower engagement.

Whether you're using influencers is actually totally irrelevant to the point I'm trying to make.

The point is...Whatever you're doing -- and I do mean whatever -- pastor of a church, owner of a restaurant, performing artist, or business of any kind, focus on serving and engaging an audience you've identified as needing what you have to offer, and offer it to them over and over again.

Be the organization or company that listens to your audience, and improves their lives by delivering on your promise -- consistently.

Sometimes you have an idea. So you bring it to fruition, but it doesn't land on the public (beyond family and friends) as you wished.

Sometimes the work you've been doing for years extends beyond the expiration date of the times, or people gravitate to something or someone else.

When those times come, evaluate the situation. After making whatever adjustments you feel you need to make, do not be afraid to pivot. Shift gears, grow into a new space...subtly or brashly. Just don't. be. afraid.

Don't get stuck. We were all made to grow and evolve.

There is no transaction which can take place without trust.
Just like when you sit in a chair, that is a transaction, you trust the chair to hold your weight.

What about something more meaty like, when you choose a car or clothing brand, you choose it after you have an adequate amount of trust to make the purchase.

So before you ask a customer to make a transaction of any kind with you, be sure you have established trust in your word, trust in your brand, trust in your product or service. Tip: You achieve this through consistency, delivery and honoring your word.

Take the time to build community, relationships, and equity as this yields longer-term results.
