Windrush, named after the Empire Windrush that brought over 800 passengers from Jamaica to the United Kingdom in 1948, comes just after the 74th anniversary of this voyage and the 60th Anniversary of Jamaica’s Independence. The Empire Windrush brought one of the largest influxes of Caribbean people to the UK bringing even more Caribbean culture to the isle. Wild East and Kicks & Keg’s Windrush exemplifies the combining of old and new world flavors to bring a lager perfect for the last barbecues and late nights of the summer season.
The base of the beer is a smoky helles enhanced by the gifts of scotch bonnet, thyme, and allspice from the spice islands. The combination creates a crisp and savory beer that doesn’t overpower food while standing in its on against other flavors.
Brewed in collaboration with Robyn G. Weise of Kicks & Kegs, for the upcoming Beer Festival. Windrush is an homage to her Jamaican-English heritage and the flavors that ultimately led to her love of beer.
