Falling fertility rates over the next quarter century will have far-reaching social and economic consequences, a new report says.⁠

The UN forecasts the global population could grow from the current figure of about 8bn to 9.7bn in 2050 and peak at nearly 10.4bn in the mid-2080s. ⁠

But those figures mask how the so-called total fertility rate — the number of children born per female per lifetime — has already fallen in some countries below the level of roughly 2.1 needed for population replacement.⁠

More than 35 new pieces of sustainability regulation will go into effect globally by 2027. A lot of that will have to do with using better raw materials, like regenerative cotton or recycled polyester, and there’s not nearly enough to go around. Humankind for Ukraine is committed to restoring dignity and seeking justice for Ukrainians affected by the ongoing conflict. When we began our work with Ukrainian families in April 2022 through Humankind Global, we quickly understood the need for stable housing across Europe, employment opportunities, and access to quality education, healthcare, and mental health services. In the absence of a coordinated global response, we banded together with grassroots groups on the ground. Now, we are doubling down on our services that will restore dignity and seek justice for Ukrainians. We are piloting a relocation program for refugee families to northern Italy, producing a documentary in collaboration with Ukrainian filmmakers, and supporting independent media in Ukraine.
