Hi there, my name is Claire and I identify as a q***r bisexual woman (she/her). I feel fortunate to be out and proud, and furthermore to work at a company that makes me feel comfortable, accepted and in fact celebrates my identity.
I used to feel ambivalent about corporate displays of pride month inclusion; like great you changed your logo for 30 days. However, since working at Halo my thoughts on this have changed. My company has wholeheartedly created an inclusive and most importantly safe space, I believe, for employees to come as they are and be hailed for their uniqueness. Diversity, when wholeheartedly embraced and welcomed, moreover sought out as an asset, is when true growth, accessibility, and the exchange of new ideas can occur. A more inclusive world lifts us all up.
I have been so very lucky to be the beneficiary of working in such diverse environments; places where I felt seen and was able to grow and learn, not only career-wise but also in my own identity and feelings of self-worth. From my time at BUST magazine, to Fullstack Academy’s Grace Hopper program (a software engineering bootcamp for Women and Non-binary individuals), to my current role as a developer at Halo.
Moreover, as a developer at Halo, I have been featured in posts like this which allow me a direct voice and make me feel both seen and lauded for my skillsets. Creative expression is a meaningful outlet for me, and it has been truly fruitful to share my talents and also view and learn from the immense wealth of talent of my coworkers.
And I would like to end this post with a double affirming event I attended in 2019: The Le****ns Who Tech & Allies Leadership Summit. This event was so important to me in both affirming both my relatively new acceptance of my sexual identity and my new journey in tech: http://ow.ly/2QQU50JrV20.
Thank you for reading and Happy Pride Month!
