What began as a in March is about to wrap up its second at the end of August! One of our clients was using a manual spreadsheet for its users, so we started by that process and then opened it up so more users could give input with minimal oversight from the client. Our team worked to ensure the results were visually attractive to users and fun for them to engage.

Our core team remained the same throughout, so they had strong background knowledge about the stages of this project and a high level of commitment due to all teammates understanding why each component mattered. “Success was earned by the entire team, from to to , and of course the client collaborating with us so effectively,” says and Valeria Olivera.

Valeria works out of our office in . For this project, she focused on understanding what the business wanted versus what it needed by visualizing designs in , then checked progress using our flows to ensure on time delivery with the right quality. She paid close attention to the details and really got into the weeds of the project while remaining focused on applying the correct business rules for the client’s specific scenarios. Her team worked with , kept listening to the client and pivoted as necessary.

It was this that helped spur the client to seek two extensions on our original statement of work. The quality of our generated a quality and a very happy client.

To wrap up LGBTQ+ Pride Month, Halo hosted two happy hours. The first hour was for self-identified members of q***r community and focused on team-building to support each other during difficult times full of political controversy.

The second hour also welcomed allies. It began with a recording of Harvey Milk's classic speech on hope and then offered a panel focused on developing our professional capacity to do inclusion work and be better allies. We closed it out with a trivia game about all the resources we've been rolling out this month.

It was not only a good time, but our own way of doing what Milk's speech asks us to do. "Without hope," he said, "not only g**s, but the blacks, the seniors, the handicapped, the us'es, the us'es will give up.

And if you help elect to the central committee and other offices, more gay people, that gives a green light to all who feel disenfranchised, a green light to move forward. It means hope to a nation that has given up, because if a gay person makes it, the doors are open to everyone." At Halo, the doors are open to everyone.

Halo is doing the work. Our CEO announced 3 commitments today:
1.    Halo will post open positions on more diverse hiring platforms, effective immediately. It’s a myth that there is simply no qualified Black talent out there. After careful research, we’ve selected WorkplaceDiversity.com and Diversity.com to add onto our current array of hiring channels.
2.    Halo will cultivate more diverse networks through recruiters, internships, and mentorships. We will be directly seeking undergrads from the top Historically Black Colleges and Universities through their job boards, effective immediately. We’ve also selected a solid prospect for other types of connector opportunities and are beginning an exploratory partnership conversation with them to determine options for next steps.
3.    Halo will reduce unconscious bias in job posting and employee evaluation. We are already working on revised postings to use more inclusive language, specifically taking a “skills first” approach to qualification of candidates. We are also working to build an unconscious bias training that will be rolled out first to company leaders involved in employment processes in August and then companywide by the end of the year.
We are excited to report on the success of these initiatives next Juneteenth and to make further advances in our mission to drive innovation through inclusion.

Hello, I'm Steph Simorka (they/them). I live in Brooklyn with my fiancé Jess and I identify as Non-Binary and Bisexual. I'm a Visual Designer here at Halo Media. I've been in the design industry for over a decade and love combining my fine arts background with my knowledge of UI/UX.

It's both amazing and refreshing to be part of a company that is open, accepting, and interested in you as an individual. Halo has a “come as you are” feeling to its work environment. Authenticity is the most important way to live and engage with the world. Since the language has shifted in the q***r community over the last ten years to empower people to find their voice and realize who they are, I have also been able to find and express my authenticity.

I've been told my entire life I was different from others. It has been a long journey to find the right calibration within myself and it really took trusting myself and the process. I feel grateful to be in NYC where I could find a community and experience a world of different thoughts, and folks from a variety of open perspectives. Although I was always made to feel Othered, I’m finding out that I have more similarities with others than differences.

This Pride Month I want others to feel empowered, to trust themselves. You know more about your own self and destiny than anyone else possibly can. My advice to all those feeling unseen and/or Questioning is: Don’t let others tell you that your feelings and thoughts are not valid. “Be curious, not judgmental.” – Ted Lasso

Hi there, my name is Claire and I identify as a q***r bisexual woman (she/her). I feel fortunate to be out and proud, and furthermore to work at a company that makes me feel comfortable, accepted and in fact celebrates my identity.
I used to feel ambivalent about corporate displays of pride month inclusion; like great you changed your logo for 30 days. However, since working at Halo my thoughts on this have changed. My company has wholeheartedly created an inclusive and most importantly safe space, I believe, for employees to come as they are and be hailed for their uniqueness. Diversity, when wholeheartedly embraced and welcomed, moreover sought out as an asset, is when true growth, accessibility, and the exchange of new ideas can occur. A more inclusive world lifts us all up.
I have been so very lucky to be the beneficiary of working in such diverse environments; places where I felt seen and was able to grow and learn, not only career-wise but also in my own identity and feelings of self-worth. From my time at BUST magazine, to Fullstack Academy’s Grace Hopper program (a software engineering bootcamp for Women and Non-binary individuals), to my current role as a developer at Halo.
Moreover, as a developer at Halo, I have been featured in posts like this which allow me a direct voice and make me feel both seen and lauded for my skillsets. Creative expression is a meaningful outlet for me, and it has been truly fruitful to share my talents and also view and learn from the immense wealth of talent of my coworkers.
And I would like to end this post with a double affirming event I attended in 2019: The Le****ns Who Tech & Allies Leadership Summit. This event was so important to me in both affirming both my relatively new acceptance of my sexual identity and my new journey in tech: http://ow.ly/2QQU50JrV20.
Thank you for reading and Happy Pride Month!

I am Mindy and my pronouns are they/them/theirs and she/her/hers. I live in Atlanta, Ga with my wife, Megan.
At Halo I am a Product Manager on our Innovation X Inclusion team. We are creating/nurturing a culture where everyone feels like they can belong and that better is possible. The goal is to empower employees to bring their unique perspectives to truly collaborate toward meaningful innovation and take pride of ownership. I am proud to work at a place where all parts of my identity can be featured and celebrated and I encourage all of my colleagues to that same end.
As a gender non-conforming Visual Activist I dress in a manner that inspires me and stirs onlookers to engage in dialogue in order to drive visibility, awareness and social change. My message of love, protection, unity, and equality is intersectional by nature and action. When someone sees me on Zoom, Instagram, or anywhere – my hope is that the message they receive is that if there is room for me to myself in this world that there is room for them, too.
Even as a young Jewish kid growing up on Long Island I felt like a square peg trying to make it in a round peg world. There was an ‘otherness’ that I couldn’t quite place my finger on, but it still loomed large, especially in my fashion sense. I remember my favorite outfit in junior high school that I found with mom at Burlington Coat Factory: bright yellow pants (with a snap vest to match), black polo with rainbow colored stripes, and a black newsie cap. The evolution of that sense of style would land me at the dapperQ NYFW show walking the runway at the Brooklyn Museum - twice so far.
I will be back in Greenville, SC on June 25th proudly walking in their 2nd annual Gender Expansive Fashion Show for a Black and q***r owned brand Alani Taylor – designer Timeekah “Murph” Murphy.
What’s stopping you from making the world your runway?

I am Tong, a Senior Visual Designer at Halo.
I came to America from China for a higher education. I received my bachelor's degree from Parsons School of Design, and a Master's degree from NYU. A city like New York - one of the world’s most diverse cities - with visionary cultural leaders, artists, and dreamers as a backdrop to my studies was an alluring fairytale. I got the added education of discovering, experiencing, and learning values and perspectives from friends and places within the city.
As a non-native English speaker I have a unique perspective. Understanding, thinking, and using language have many significant differences. When I was a newly arrived international student, I faced difficulties speaking English. My nervousness to speak in English was related to pride of not wanting to fail and be perceived as having inferior ability. I felt embarrassed that people could not understand me due to my enunciation. I would advise that native English speakers be patient, speak slowly, and use alternative words when they try to communicate with coworkers whose first language isn’t English. Encourage them to speak more instead of shutting down from embarrassment. Luckily, most of my friends and coworkers are very supportive and give me the space to process, understand, and share.
My mother is an outstanding woman and my role model. She came from a lower income family. She didn’t have the educational opportunities she’s made possible for me, yet became very successful through hard work and persistence. She always dreamed of buying a beautiful house and taking care of her family. She worked very hard after she left home and made her dream come true. One day when I was walking in the West Village I imagined that I could buy a house in the city someday. Then I realized that my mom’s dream became my dream. I hope that I can have a house and a family in New York City in the future.
One of my passions is making art. These paintings are in pastel watercolor.
