Casa Belvedere, Italian for “house with a beautiful view”, is a community cultural center in Staten Island. Built in 1908, it is included in the US National Register of Historic Places, and housed several families before being turned into a cultural center.
“The majority of Italian immigrants came to this country to pursue a better life for their family, not to be part of organized crime as depicted by the mass media.” Says Gina Biancardi, Founder and President of Casa Belvedere.
“E, attraverso tanti sacrifici, i nostri immigrati hanno raggiunto quella vita migliore per i lori figli, nipoti e pronipoti: They achieved this better life for their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren through much sacrifice, holding onto their fundamental values and traditions at a time when multiculturalism was not accepted in mainstream society.
Today we are grounded and successful Italian-Americans thanks to their Faith, family values and traditions, belief in community, example of hard work, and the passed on blessing of a Sunday dinner table full of family, friends, food and laughter!
New York: At Casa Belvedere we celebrate, promote and keep alive all things wonderfully Italian! We are also proud and honored to work with other important local organizations, such as Petrone Associates, who also appreciate and promote NYC’s diverse arts and cultural landscape!”
We are lucky to share our borough with such a key cultural hub! To learn more about Casa Belvedere, visit www.casa-Belvedere.org.
