PENN 2 Interior also received an NLB Tesla Award.

In the reception area, the polished orange ceiling called for a lighting solution that avoided reflective glare while preserving its vibrancy. Custom orange louvers integrated into slim, recessed linear downlights maintain the continuity of the ceiling plane, while reflected light from the floor creates a warm, subtle glow—enhancing the material richness without visual clutter.

CBB is proud that our exterior lighting design for the Penn 2 podium has received an NLB Tesla Award.

The design integrates lighting across multiple architectural elements—including the canopy at the Penn Station entrance, entry portals to Madison Square Garden, and the underside of the new “bustle” extension. A two‑block‑long LED ceiling featuring 288,000 RGB nodes is paired with column accents and a continuous perimeter line of light, creating a bold and cohesive nighttime identity befitting this major transit, entertainment, and commercial hub.

One of our projects that just won an NLB Tesla Award, the lighting renovation of Yale’s Sterling Library L&B Reading Room, features restored original chandeliers. Following many studies and mock-ups, the diffuse glass cylinders were fitted with new LED A-lamps, while MR16 LED uplights integrated into the top of the pendants – each tilted 10 degrees highlight the beautifully ornamented Gothic ceiling.

For the Chess & Checkers House in Central Park, where a rustic wood trellis was created to replicate the original design that had been destroyed in 1940, CBB’s lighting design used small wide-beam downlights mounted discreetly on the sides of beams to downlight the tables, seating and floor, which in turn bounced light up to make the structure glow at night.

The Vdara Hotel and Spa’s public spaces come alive with CBB’s lighting design.

In the Pre‑function Space, multicolored glass orbs suspended from a curving ceiling slot catch the light from concealed LED sources, adding controlled sparkle. A backlit floating wall panel introduces depth and provides a warm glow to the surrounding surfaces.

In the Meeting Rooms, a custom chandelier of twisted glass ribbons is illuminated from above, creating shimmer and directing light onto the table below. A recessed cove provides clean, continuous perimeter illumination.

CBB’s lighting design for the main conference room at Twin Brook Capital Partners’ Chicago office centers on a series of rectangular ceiling pop‑ups, each wrapped with a glowing perimeter fixture. This integrated detail creates a soft, ambient ceiling glow while delivering bright, comfortable task light to the conference table below. Slim linear fixtures illuminate the room’s perimeter. The luminous pop‑ups echo cove elements used throughout the public spaces, bringing visual cohesion to the workplace.

CBB’s lighting design for the lobby of the Pioneer Natural Resources Headquarters in Irving, TX features a chandelier composed of countless illuminated LED points, evoking a star‑filled night sky. Their apparent brightness varies subtly with composition and viewing angle, adding depth, movement, and a touch of quiet drama to the arrival experience.

Along the feature stair, a continuous cove detail threads between the wall and the stair stringer, visually lifting the stair and giving it a weightless, floating quality. The indirect glow highlights the stone wall surface, guides circulation, and connects the vertical volume back to the celestial installation above.

A play of light, texture, and subtle contrast—bringing clarity and calm to a workplace entrance.

At the Colorado Tower in Austin, CBB illuminated the glass crown using vertically mounted linear LED fixtures that wash light sideways across the translucent curtain wall. By placing fixtures on both sides of every other vertical mullion, the crown takes on a distinctive banded rhythm, adding depth, pattern, and a sense of movement to the skyline silhouette.

In the first image, you can also catch a glimpse of our crown lighting at Frost Bank Tower—another example of how thoughtful façade illumination enhances Austin’s nighttime identity.

Grace Church—designed by James Renwick and consecrated in 1846— underwent a renovation that introduced a new organ and removed intrusive additions made over the years.

The vaulted ceiling had been dotted with downlights that disrupted the illusion of stone; these were removed and replaced with discreet fixtures aimed only toward the altar, hidden from the congregation’s view. Carefully focused cross‑lighting improves visibility for the rector while keeping attention on the altar.

Along the clerestory, uplights softly reveal the ceiling, and rear illumination brings life to stained‑glass windows that receive no daylight.

This project received the IES Illumination Award of Merit.

The octagonal main sanctuary of the St. Katharine Drexel Chapel at Xavier University in New Orleans uses a double‑wall construction with a ring of skylights and a perforated inner layer to bring ethereal daylight into the space. After sunset, concealed uplighting within the cavity backlights the perforated surface in a warm, ambient glow, while discreet ceiling accents add a functional layer of illumination.

This project’s lighting design was honored with six awards.
