Did you know, NOT responding timely to urgent matters can make your best performers become very frustrated and worried?
If they asked you for something very important and if the answer is 'no', then let them know that in a nice way and as soon as possible, don't keep them waiting for days and then say something.
Here is a use case:
Employee sends Manager a Txt message:
Q. Hey, can I get the report that I need for my work by tomorrow afternoon? Without it I am going to miss a very important deadline.
The answer that the manager has in mind is, "No, because I will not have it available tomorrow afternoon", however he does not want to say 'No' and decided not to respond to the Txt message that day.
Eventually, the manager kept the person waiting for 3-5 days.
2 days later, he asked some one else to forward him the report requested. (Still did not Txt him)
The person received the report needed from someone else on the 4th day, much later than expected. On the 5th day, the manager finally responds to the Txt message stating: "You should have received the report by now".🤯
Do this instead:
Respond back quickly, in a kind way and then suggest an alternate time. Don't wait 3-5 days to respond back to someone on urgent matters where the person is going to face some difficulty because of your delay.
Poor communications can demotivate or disengage people and hurt your organization's bottom line.
