On Saturday, June 27th we took over Military Park with Proud 2 Be Me Learning Center for Game On! Family Fun Day.⁠

Here's what went down:⁠
⚽ Soccer drills + field games⁠
🥋 Karate demos by The Chiba Sir Khalif School of Martial Arts⁠
🎨 Craft stations for all ages⁠
👩🏽‍🔬 STEM programming with Girl Scouts of Northern NJ⁠
🎵 Live music + audio by Bunkr⁠
🏈 A visit from the Newark Fire Department⁠
🚶🏽 A community walkability tour powered by an AARP grant⁠
⚽ Live FIFA World Cup 26 screening⁠
⁠
This was a free event, produced out of love for this city by two small businesses who believe Newark families deserve this kind of programming.⁠

Walk with us. 👟

This Saturday at Game On! Family Fun Day, we’re inviting the Newark community to experience Military Park a little differently.

In partnership with Friends of Mariners Harbor https://www.instagram.com/friends_of_mh, 2026 AARP Community Challenge grantee, we’ll be hosting a community walking tour focused on how people move through, experience, and connect with our public spaces.

What makes a neighborhood feel welcoming? What helps families, seniors, students, and residents safely navigate their community? What opportunities exist to make our public spaces even more accessible and connected?

We’ll explore those questions together while touring the downtown spaces and places that make Newark special.
