🏆🇪🇸🇵🇹 Another Prestigious Culinary Honor for the Ironbound!

We are incredibly proud to celebrate two Newark Ironbound restaurants recognized in New Jersey Monthly’s 2026 Readers’ Choice Restaurant Poll—a statewide celebration of New Jersey’s favorite dining destinations.

In the Spanish | Portuguese category, Fornos of Spain in Newark was named the North Jersey Readers’ Choice winner, receiving the most reader votes in the region. Mompou Tapas, also right here in Newark, earned a coveted Critics’ Pick, selected by New Jersey Monthly Magazine editors and restaurant critics.

👏 Two Ironbound restaurants. Two distinguished honors. One incredible culinary community.

This recognition is especially meaningful because it celebrates what generations of families, restaurateurs, chefs, and entrepreneurs have built in the Ironbound. Spanish and Portuguese culture and cuisine are deeply woven into the history and identity of our neighborhood, helping make Ferry Street and the surrounding district one of New Jersey’s most distinctive dining destinations.

For decades, Fornos of Spain has been synonymous with the Ironbound dining experience, while Mompou Tapas Bar continues to showcase the spirit of Spanish tapas and hospitality. To see both recognized in the same statewide category is a tremendous source of pride for our entire community.

And the recognition is well deserved: New Jersey Monthly has separately highlighted the Ironbound’s extraordinary concentration of Iberian dining, describing a neighborhood with more than 100 restaurants, lunch counters and bars serving Spanish or Portuguese food within roughly a mile.

Congratulations to the owners, chefs, staff, and families behind Fornos of Spain and Mompou Tapas Bar. Your dedication and hospitality continue to elevate the Ironbound and introduce people from throughout New Jersey and beyond to the flavors, traditions, and culture that make our neighborhood so special.

❤️ This is more than restaurant recognition—it is recognition of the Ironbound’s culinary legacy.

Come experience it for yourself. Support local. Celebrate tradition. Taste the Ironbound.

⚽🌎 The Numbers Are In—and the Impact of the FIFA World Cup 2026 Was Extraordinary!

A recent article shared by Yahoo Finance reports that the FIFA World Cup 2026 generated an estimated $3.5 billion in total economic impact across New York and New Jersey, exceeding the original $3.3 billion projection. The post-tournament analysis also found approximately $1.9 billion in direct spending, 27,424 jobs supported, and $414.2 million in state and local tax revenue.

For us in the Ironbound, these numbers tell an even bigger story.

Throughout the World Cup, we saw firsthand what happens when the world comes to our region. Visitors filled restaurants, discovered local businesses, gathered with friends and family, and experienced the incredible food, culture, energy, and hospitality that make our neighborhood so special. Food and beverage businesses alone accounted for approximately $346 million in direct spending region-wide, demonstrating just how important restaurants and hospitality were to the tournament's economic success.

We are incredibly proud that the Ironbound was part of this historic moment. Our businesses and community worked hard to welcome visitors and show them what the Ironbound—and Newark—has to offer.

But perhaps the most exciting part is what comes next.

The relationships we built, the international exposure our region received, and the new visitors who discovered our neighborhood create opportunities that can continue long after the final whistle. The Host Committee itself emphasized that the World Cup's investments, partnerships, and global visibility are intended to produce benefits beyond the tournament.

👏 To our restaurants, cafés, bakeries, retailers, business owners, workers, residents, community partners, and everyone who helped welcome the world: this success belongs to you, too.

The World Cup is over, but the momentum continues.

The world came to our region—and discovered the Ironbound. Now let's give them every reason to come back. ❤️

The soccer tournament surpassed the region’s original projection by $200 million, according to an analysis released by the local World Cup host committee.
