Active Training Consultants, LLC

Active Training Consultants, LLC We are a small company who specializes in a wide range of trainings, including OSHA 1910 and 1926 outreach training.

At Active Training Consultants, we believe personal training is the best approach. Our courses are done on-site, either at our location or yours, in order for your employees to have the opportunity to ask questions and interact with ourselves and other employees, sometimes from different industries. The human interaction makes the courses more personal and helps the information to better take hold

, which, in turn, makes it more valuable to your company. It allows the classes to use real examples to better grasp the importance of the safety concepts we teach. Our goal is to keep everyone safe, all the time.

That ground prong didn’t just disappear for no reason 😬

If a plug is missing the grounding prong, don’t just plug it in and hope for the best. That little piece plays a BIG role in protecting against shock hazards.

And no… cutting it off to ‘make it fit’ is definitely not the move.

Nothing builds confidence like emergency supplies that expired YEARS ago 😬

If the stuff in your first aid kit expired back when Vine was still popular… it might be time for a check.

First aid kits are supposed to help during emergencies—not become part of the problem. Take a few minutes to inspect and replace expired items before they’re actually needed.

Poor housekeeping creating a trip hazard can lead to preventable injuries.

Items left in walking paths—such as cords, hoses, or stored materials—can increase the risk of slips, trips, and falls.

To reduce risk:

Keep walkways clear and unobstructed
Store cords and materials properly when not in use
Include walking surfaces in routine hazard inspections

Good housekeeping is a fundamental part of workplace safety.

Improperly stored materials can create falling object and struck-by hazards.

Unsecured or poorly positioned materials may shift, fall, or become unstable, putting workers at risk and potentially causing product damage.

To reduce risk:

Store materials securely and within designated rack boundaries
Ensure loads are stable and properly positioned
Inspect storage areas regularly for potential falling object hazards

Safe storage is a key part of hazard prevention.

Storing flammable or combustible materials under stairs creates a serious fire hazard.

Exit routes and stairways should remain protected and free from storage that could contribute fuel to a fire or compromise safe egress.

To reduce risk:

Do not store flammable or combustible materials under stairways
Keep exit routes and egress paths clear of storage
Store materials only in approved, designated areas

Protecting egress routes is a critical part of fire safety.

Obstructed access to shutoff controls creates a serious safety risk.

Emergency shutoffs must be readily accessible at all times. Storing materials too close can delay response during an emergency, increasing the risk of injury, equipment damage, or escalation of the incident.

To reduce risk:

Maintain clear access to all shutoff controls
Follow required clearance distances
Reinforce proper storage and housekeeping practices

Quick access in an emergency can make all the difference.

Missing electrical cover plates expose energized components and create a shock hazard.

Openings around outlets or junction boxes can allow contact with live parts, increasing the risk of electrical shock or fire.

To reduce risk:

Install proper cover plates on all electrical boxes
Ensure openings are fully enclosed and protected
Inspect electrical systems regularly for missing or damaged components

Proper enclosure of electrical components is essential for safety.

Improvised electrical connections present a serious safety hazard.

Using a screw or other non-approved method to secure electrical wiring can result in loose connections, overheating, arcing, and potential fire or shock hazards.

To reduce risk:

Use only approved connectors and proper termination methods
Ensure all electrical connections are secure and compliant
Have repairs performed by qualified personnel

Electrical systems must be installed and maintained using proper, approved methods.

An incomplete guardrail system creates a significant fall hazard.

Guardrails are designed to provide continuous protection at elevated edges. Missing components compromise the system’s effectiveness and increase the risk of falls.

To reduce risk:

Ensure guardrail systems are complete (top rail, midrail, and proper support)
Inspect barriers before work begins
Do not work near unprotected edges until proper guarding is installed

Fall protection systems must be complete to be effective.

Ah yes… the classic ‘this should be fine’ approach 😬

A piece of drywall is NOT stopping anyone from falling into an elevator shaft.

If your ‘guard’ can be kicked in, leaned on, or accidentally bumped through… it’s not a guard. Fix it before someone takes a very dangerous step.

That cord has seen better days 😬

If your cable is literally falling apart, it’s not ‘still good’—it’s a shock waiting to happen.

Frayed wires + electricity = bad combo. Time to replace it before it replaces your day with a trip to the ER.
