Pair Hazelfern with special occasions, loud music, good people, great stories, romantic getaways, and Tuesday night farm dinners. Our adventure started with a quarter-life crisis, a dimly lit Portland basement, and five gallons of great Pinot Noir. Its grown to a thousand gallons, a vineyard, and a family wine farm in the Chehalem (sha-hay-lem) Mountains of Oregon. We’ve learned by loving, by doin

g, and we've honed our craft through hustle, hard work, and hours of sharing with friends. Thanks for joining us!

Let’s hear it for 2024! 💪🏼😊

We spent the past week at Hazelfern surviving an epic rain storm 🌧️ and blending & bottling all our brand new 2024 Pinots. 🍷

We are exhausted but excited for what we believe are some of our best wines yet! (hashtag: I’ll take things winemakers say every year for 200, Alex… hashtag: this year it’s actually true)

Creating all the final wines and getting every single blend juuust right takes a ton of energy. We spend so many hours and late nights making sure that what goes into the bottles is delicious and exactly what we want to share with the world. These wines are quite literally our kids and our heart and soul.

We also think back to the year 2024 and what was happening in the world. The things we spent hours gossiping about while harvesting and sorting grapes. 2024 was the year of brat summer, the Paris Olympics, the Eras Tour, Diddy’s arrest, and a US presidential election. 👀

We also think about everyone who helped us make these wines in 2024 .tomme.de.sera , and to those who helped us grow the incredible grapes .terra . We’re so grateful for you guys!

Thanks so much for all your continued support as we pour our heart and soul into pursuing greatness. We wouldn’t be here without you! ❤️❤️❤️

Let’s hear it for New York! 🍎

We had so much fun this week in the big apple! NYC played a huge part of our early relationship with both each other and wine back in the 2000’s and early 2010’s. It was exciting and inspiring to be back in one of our very favorite cities this week!

The main reason we were in NYC was to spread the gospel of Hazelfern and share some Willamette Valley love at .suckling ‘s Great Wines of the World event with 2000+ people in attendance. Such a well done event and we were honored to be there pouring Prime Cut Pinot Noir and Rock Block Chardonnay.

We also had several great business meetings as we work to expand Hazelfern into New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Our baby is growing up so fast and it was amazing to feel the energy and excitement for Hazelfern in the city.

Of course we also had some great food and hit a few tourist spots. was so proud to eat 5 bagel sandwiches in 2 days… a very solid effort.

Thanks for a fun week, NYC! Can’t wait to be back soon!

TOP 100 WINES IN THE USA ⚡️We’re thrilled to share the news that our 2022 Three Cedars Vineyard Pinot Noir has been picked as a Top 100 Wine in the USA for 2025 by .suckling 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

Coming in at #33 best wine from the USA at JamesSuckling.com tasted this year, we’re extremely honored to be included. We work so hard to make these wines, and it’s always so fun to hear that others are enjoying them.

We’re so honored to be included on the list with many of our colleagues, legends, and friends:

▪️Arterberry Maresh
▪️Soter
▪️Domaine Drouhin
▪️White Walnut Estate
▪️Ponzi Vineyards
▪️Beaux Freres
▪️Eyrie Vineyards

Included in the elements that the tasting team considers in creating the Top 100 lists is the “wow” factor – the emotional response we get from a truly great wine.

🍷 Tasting notes from JamesSuckling.com and executive editor, Jim Gordon: Beautiful rose petal and cedar aromas lead to spicy raspberry flavors in this flavorful, well-balanced and lively wine. So fragrant in potpourri, pine needles and cranberries, then a focused palate of red fruit backed by moderate tannins and good, lively acidity. Drink now or hold. 96 points

🥴To be completely honest, 2022 was an extremely challenging vintage for us. The early frost made for a late and really tough harvest. It took us a full 48 hours to sort the fruit from Three Cedars and I’m not going to lie… we almost quit making wine. We just kept saying that a challenging year gives us an opportunity to really put our heads down and make something special, and this honor means the absolute world to us. Hard work does pay off. 🙌🏼

We are extremely grateful, and can’t wait to release the 2023 Three Cedars Pinot Noir in just a couple of weeks. Back to work! 💪🏼

October in Hazelfern-land! 👻

Normally, our Octobers are COMPLETELY CONSUMED by harvest and the winemaking season, but not this year! Harvest was so early and so fast that we’ve had every last barrel put away into the barrel rooms for over a week now which has never happened before Halloween.💨

We’re taking full advantage of this October and doing “normal” Willamette Valley Fall Family things like visiting pumpkin patches, foraging for mushrooms, celebrating birthdays (Ava turned 12), checking out the views, cooking, and just enjoying life in the WV. What a Fall it’s been!

PRO TIP: October is a great time to visit Oregon, so put it on your calendar for next year.

Cheers!
xoxo, the Hazelferns

Makers gonna make! A week full of pressing and punch downs 🥊

Harvest 2025 is moving right along! Wines are tasting great, and we’re only one press load away from being finished. By far, the quickest harvest season we’ve seen. 💨

🙋🏼‍♂️ What are “punch downs?”: When red wine grapes are fermenting in their tanks, the skins of the grapes get pushed to the top due to all bubbles and CO2 being produced by the fermenting grape juice underneath the skins. 2x per day, we go through and punch the skins (called a “cap”) back down into the fermenting juice to build delicious color and flavor into the wine.

Can’t wait for you guys to taste these wines!

Who turned up the heat out here?! 🥵

On this week’s episode of FARMING WITH BRYAN, Fox 12 Oregon stops by to check out the sunscreen (organic clay) we sprayed on our grapes to prepare them for several days of 100+ degrees. (farming is always an adventure) ☀️

The grapes have just turned from green to purple which makes them extra susceptible to sunburn and raisining… things we don’t want to see in the winery (sunburn and raisining can potentially add bitterness to wine).

Spraying all the vines with white clay helps reflect UV light away from the grapes and leaves.

Like mama always said… gotta wear your sunscreen kids. ☀️✌🏼

As the heat wave continues in the Portland metro area this weekend, a Newberg winery is taking an extra step to help its grapes survive the summer.
