This weekend, Newberry Springs Fire Department conducted drafting and hose operations training.

Crews practiced establishing a draft from a static water source using Engine 392. Training included apparatus positioning, deploying and securing hard suction hose, calculating the necessary hydraulic formulas to determine proper discharge pressures, establishing a reliable water supply, and maintaining proper pump operations.

Once the draft was established, personnel flowed water through handlines and the apparatus deck gun/master stream.
We also took the opportunity to work with one of our newest members on the fundamentals of hose deployment, hose handling, and nozzle operations, providing hands-on experience with properly deploying a line from the engine and working as part of the crew.

Training with alternative water sources is especially important in Newberry Springs, where traditional fire hydrants are limited and firefighters may need to establish water from ponds, tanks, or other static water sources during an emergency.

The Newberry Springs Fire Department would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the Calimesa Fire Department for the generous donation of a Chief Unit to our department.

This vehicle will be a valuable addition to our fleet and will help support command, administrative, training, and emergency response operations throughout our community.

We are extremely grateful for Calimesa Fire Department’s support and willingness to help another agency in the fire service. Donations like this make a meaningful difference for small departments like ours and directly benefit the community we serve.

During the heat wave, the Newberry CSD building at 30884 Newberry Rd. in Newberry Springs, CA 92365 has been designated as a cooling center where you can step out of the heat and drink water if needed. the Cooling Center will only be open during normal business hours, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday from 12 - 4PM

The Newberry Springs Fire Department, in partnership with the San Bernardino County Office of Emergency Services (OES), proudly hosted a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training on May 16 and 17.

Over the two-day course, participants gained valuable knowledge and hands-on skills in disaster preparedness, fire safety, disaster medical operations, light search and rescue, radio management and teamwork. Their dedication to learning these skills helps make our community stronger, safer, and more prepared for emergencies.

We appreciate San Bernardino County OES for providing this outstanding training and congratulate all of the participants for their commitment to serving their community.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this training a success! We look forward to hosting future CERT opportunities.

🚫🔥 BURN BAN IN EFFECT – NEWBERRY SPRINGS 🔥🚫

The Newberry Springs Fire Department would like to notify all residents that a burn ban is now in effect until further notice due to extremely dry conditions and the elevated risk of wildfires.

Effective IMMEDIATELY, no new burn permits will be issued, and ALL previously issued burn permits are suspended until further notice.

Reminder for July: All fireworks are illegal in Newberry Springs.
Fireworks can quickly start fires, cause serious injuries, and put our community at risk. Anyone caught lighting fireworks will face a fine starting at $1,000, and enforcement will be strict.
Please help keep Newberry Springs safe this holiday season. Leave the fireworks to the professionals.

On May 8th, the Newberry Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire in the 41000 block of Silver Valley. Engine 392 and Water Tender 392 arrived to find a passenger vehicle fully involved in flames behind a residence, with minimal risk to nearby vegetation.

The fire was quickly contained and extinguished, and thankfully, no injuries were reported. A big thank you to our mutual aid partners at MCLB for their assistance during this incident.

We appreciate the community’s ongoing support!
