The average social media influencer has an engagement rate between 1-6% (1% being the low end).
Interestingly many influencers with over 100k followers have lower engagement rates than those with a smaller following (10k-20k).
It’s pretty well understood by now that brand communities (which include influencer partnerships) have a positive effect on customers. So when brands work with groups of influencers regardless of their following size we increase brand awareness, trust, and loyalty.
Loyalty is interesting, though. Many studies actually show that Influencers with a smaller following actually have more LOYAL followers than those with a much larger following. Why is that?
When engaging with influencers with smaller following, you’re most likely talking to the actual person that’s running the account, they are engaging back directly with you - you feel heard, respected, and feel like your relationship is “real” - so you stick around and engage more and more consistently - this leads to increased trust and so on.
So don’t discount influencers with smaller followings. They may have a more loyal community - which could lead to more REAL customers for you!
