It’s been a busy beginning of the week. One of our clients reached out to us a couple weeks ago and asked if we would be willing to help them out with a special project for their kindergartners. With a pandemic happening and the students not being able to go on field trips we decided to help bring the field trip to them. We decorated our trailer so they could have a tractor ride out to a mini pumpkin patch that we helped set up. Those kids where all smiles when they got off the trailer. Thanks for allowing us to help provide this experience HRA

These are some photos of a clients lawn that we’ve been working on since July. The bare area in the before fert application photo is what her entire lawn looked like when we took her on as a client.(the photo listed before fert application is actually 2weeks after applying fertilizer we labeled it before just so you could see how bad her fescue lawn had gotten before we started to treat her lawn) During our first meeting we talked and she voiced her frustration to us on how confused she was that year after year her lawn could just decline so rapidly in the summer when she was doing everything that she needed to do to keep it healthy. She was on a w**d control program and a fertility program and had the lawn treated with fungicides to prevent summer time diseases and had an irrigation system. We started off pulling several soil cores from all over the lawn to be sent in for testing. While taking the samples we noticed several small patches of Bermuda grass in the front, we went ahead and decided to start feeding the Bermuda with the proper nutrients to get it to grow and fill in. Once we had the results of the soil analysis we found that the soil was lacking several nutrients needed for the plant to survive stressful periods. The plant had no reserves to pull from when needed. We began giving the soil the nutrients it needed and began to fertilize the small patches of Bermuda grass and had very good success getting it filled in. The photo labeled “after 2 fert applications” was a photo taken 2 months after our initial meeting, the photos labeled “After” are photos just 7 days after overseeding with Perennial ryegrass the first week in October. It’s absolutely amazing to see what can be achieved once you have the information a soil analysis provides.

With the dog days of summer coming you should be winding down on the feedings for your fescue lawns, but if you have a warm season turf you should be continuing to feed it depending on the type of warm season turf you have. Bermuda grass requires anywhere from 4-6 lbs of nitrogen per growing season.
