Hatchers Accounting & Tax Bookkeeping, accounting, and tax services for small businesses. I have done bookkeeping and taxes in various forms for over 20 years. What are the possibilities?

As a multi-business owner, I understand the challenges behind the numbers and provide practical, reliable support so you can stay organized and make confident decisions. I use that expertise along with my years of banking experience, and most recently running my own business to help you manage and understand your own finances. I help you worry less about your finances so that you can run your business instead of your business running you. This will give you time and money to focus on your business and allow you to sleep easier at night. For years I have been wanting to start my own business, but timing was never right. I started a business so that we could work together as a family, spending time together, and moving in the same direction focusing on the same goals and dreams to build a family legacy. My goal is to help you achieve your dreams and goals. I know from my own experience how hard it is to run your own business. Everything falls on your shoulders. You are constantly thinking about profit, rising costs, growth, customers, employees, cash flow, marketing, taxes, and regulations just to name a few. All of this while trying to balance a personal life. Wouldn’t it nice to have someone who can help shoulder some of those burdens? If you knew you did not have to worry about your finances, what could you do with your business? How would you like to work with a Bookkeeping Professional that will not only handle the boring task of inputting data but will also help you understand what that boring data is telling you about your business and your finances? If all of this sounds good to you, I’d love to talk to you and see how I can help you and your business. Email me at [email protected].

We're entering the final quarter of 2026, and here's something every small business owner should consider:

Don't wait until tax season to find out how your business performed this year.

If your bookkeeping is behind, now is the time to get caught up.

✅ Reconcile your bank and credit card accounts.

✅ Review your income and expenses.

✅ Make sure you're recording all business transactions.

✅ Review your profit and loss and balance sheet.

Your financial reports shouldn't just tell you what happened last year. They should help you make better decisions TODAY.

At Hatchers Accounting & Tax, LLC, we understand small business because we're small business owners ourselves.

If you’re a business owner and the only time you look at your income, expenses, and profit is at tax time, you’re making a serious mistake.

Unless, of course, you’re treating your business like a hobby.

Your books shouldn’t just tell you what happened last year. They should help you make better decisions **right now.**

Do you need QuickBooks or another bookkeeping program? Maybe. It depends on the size and complexity of your business. Can a small business keep its books using spreadsheets? Absolutely. But as the business grows, good accounting software usually makes the job much easier—and gives you much better information.

At a minimum:

• **Update your books monthly.** Don’t wait until the end of the year to figure out where your money went.

• **Reconcile your bank accounts, credit cards, and loans monthly.** If the accounts aren’t reconciled, you don’t really know whether the numbers you’re looking at are accurate.

• **Review your financial statements monthly.** At the very least, sit down and really study them quarterly.

Three reports every business owner should understand:

📊 **Profit & Loss** — Are you actually making money, and where is it coming from?

📋 **Balance Sheet** — What does the business own, what does it owe, and what is its financial position?

💵 **Cash Flow Statement** — Where is the cash actually coming from and where is it going?

You don’t have to be an accountant to understand your numbers.

But if you own a business, you **do** need to know your numbers.

Good bookkeeping isn’t just about being ready for tax season. It’s about knowing how your business is doing while there’s still time to do something about it.

Moving money between personal and business accounts is not automatically income or an expense.

Money put into the business may be an owner contribution or a loan. Money taken out may be a draw, distribution, loan repayment, reimbursement, or payroll—depending on the facts and the business structure.

Recording every deposit as income and every withdrawal as an expense can seriously distort profit.

Transfers need labels. Good documentation tells the story behind the movement of cash.

Sometimes monthly bookkeeping cannot begin until the old problems are fixed.

Cleanup establishes a dependable starting point. Ongoing bookkeeping helps keep the business from returning to the same condition.

That may mean:

1. Reconciling prior periods

2. Correcting account balances

3. Resolving duplicate or missing transactions

4. Organizing the chart of accounts

5. Establishing a consistent monthly close

If your books need both cleanup and ongoing support, we can define the cleanup first and build the monthly process from there.

Do not wait until December to look at your year-to-date profit and loss statement.

Compare it with the same period last year and ask:

Are sales rising or falling?

Which expenses have changed the most?

Is profit keeping pace with revenue?

Are any categories unusually high or low?

Does the report agree with what you know about the business?

A report is most valuable while there is still time to act on what it shows

Want an easier way to stop mixing personal and business activity?

Start with one dedicated business checking account and one business credit card.

Use them only for business. Pay personal expenses from personal accounts. If you put personal money into the company or take money out, record the transfer clearly based on your business structure.

This one change makes transaction review faster, reports cleaner, and documentation easier to defend.

Complicated bookkeeping often begins with a system that was never clearly separated.

Five signs your QuickBooks file may need cleanup before fall turns into year-end:

✓ Accounts have never been reconciled
✓ Credit-card balances do not match the statements
✓ Old transactions remain in Uncategorized or Ask My Accountant
✓ Undeposited Funds contains amounts you cannot explain
✓ The profit and loss looks wrong—or you simply do not trust it

These issues rarely correct themselves. Addressing them now can make year-end and tax preparation much smoother.

Hatchers Accounting & Tax offers QuickBooks Online cleanup for small businesses locally and remotely.

Being behind on your books does not mean you are a bad business owner.

Most owners did not start a business because they love reconciliations. Customers, employees, jobs, repairs, and daily problems naturally take priority—until the books become another urgent problem.

If you are behind, the answer is not embarrassment. It is a realistic plan:

Determine what is missing.

Reconcile one period at a time.

Correct the issues that affect the reports.

Put a repeatable monthly process in place.

Progress starts with an honest look at where things stand.
