Hatchers Accounting & Tax

Hatchers Accounting & Tax Bookkeeping, accounting, and tax services for small businesses. I have done bookkeeping and taxes in various forms for over 20 years. What are the possibilities?

As a multi-business owner, I understand the challenges behind the numbers and provide practical, reliable support so you can stay organized and make confident decisions. I use that expertise along with my years of banking experience, and most recently running my own business to help you manage and understand your own finances. I help you worry less about your finances so that you can run your busi

ness instead of your business running you. This will give you time and money to focus on your business and allow you to sleep easier at night. For years I have been wanting to start my own business, but timing was never right. I started a business so that we could work together as a family, spending time together, and moving in the same direction focusing on the same goals and dreams to build a family legacy. My goal is to help you achieve your dreams and goals. I know from my own experience how hard it is to run your own business. Everything falls on your shoulders. You are constantly thinking about profit, rising costs, growth, customers, employees, cash flow, marketing, taxes, and regulations just to name a few. All of this while trying to balance a personal life. Wouldn’t it nice to have someone who can help shoulder some of those burdens? If you knew you did not have to worry about your finances, what could you do with your business? How would you like to work with a Bookkeeping Professional that will not only handle the boring task of inputting data but will also help you understand what that boring data is telling you about your business and your finances? If all of this sounds good to you, I’d love to talk to you and see how I can help you and your business. Email me at [email protected].

Accounting looks different when you are also a business owner.

The numbers are not abstract. They represent payroll that must be funded, bills that must be paid, taxes that must be set aside, and decisions that affect employees and families.

As the owner of multiple small businesses, I understand what it is like to look at the numbers and ask:

• Can we afford this?
• Why is cash tight?
• Is this location or service profitable?
• What happens if sales slow down?

Accurate financial information does not eliminate every difficult decision—but it helps replace guessing with something dependable.

Small-business owners: What is your biggest financial blind spot?

A. Cash flow
B. Profitability
C. Taxes
D. Debt
E. Understanding financial reports

Leave your answer in the comments.

There is no wrong answer. Many business owners are very good at providing their product or service but were never taught how to interpret the financial side of the business.

If your business pays independent contractors, collect a completed Form W-9 before the end of the year—preferably before the first payment is made.

A W-9 provides information that may be needed for year-end reporting, including the contractor’s legal name, business name, address, and taxpayer identification number.

A good process includes:

• Collecting the W-9 before payment
• Keeping it with the vendor’s records
• Tracking payments throughout the year
• Reviewing vendor totals before year-end

A W-9 does not determine whether someone is properly classified as an independent contractor, but collecting it early can prevent a January scramble.

Not every business purchase should be recorded as an immediate expense.

Some purchases—such as equipment, vehicles, furniture, or major improvements—may need to be recorded as assets because they provide value beyond the current year.

The classification matters because it affects:

• Your profit and loss statement
• Your balance sheet
• Depreciation
• Tax reporting

A bank-feed description tells you where the money was spent. It does not necessarily tell you how the purchase should be recorded.

The facts surrounding the purchase matter.

Tax season does not really begin when it is time to file a return.

It begins with the records maintained throughout the year.

When accounts are reconciled, expenses are documented, loan balances are accurate, and financial reports make sense, tax preparation is usually more efficient and less stressful.

When those things are neglected, tax time can turn into a cleanup project before the return can even be prepared.

Keeping accurate books during the year is one of the best ways to prepare for tax season before it arrives.

Some of you may notice a new name: Hatchers Bookkeeping is becoming Hatchers Accounting & Tax.

The new name reflects the direction I am building toward—helping small-business owners maintain accurate records, understand their financial position, and be better prepared for important accounting and tax decisions.

Bookkeeping remains the foundation. I am continuing to help businesses with:

• QuickBooks Online cleanup
• Catch-up bookkeeping
• Monthly bookkeeping
• Account reconciliations
• Financial reporting

Additional information about accounting and tax services will be shared as those services are added.

The name is changing, but the focus remains the same: practical, dependable support from one small-business owner to another.

Before another busy week begins, take five minutes to look at your business finances.

Ask yourself:

• How much cash is available?
• What bills are due this week?
• Which customers still owe money?
• Are payroll and taxes covered?
• Is anything unusual happening with expenses?

You don’t need to study every report every day. A consistent financial check-in can help you catch problems sooner and make more deliberate decisions.

Catch-up, cleanup, and monthly bookkeeping are not exactly the same.

CATCH-UP
Recording and reconciling work that hasn’t been completed.

CLEANUP
Correcting errors and unreliable balances already in the books.

MONTHLY BOOKKEEPING
Keeping accounts current, reconciled, and reviewed going forward.

Some businesses need only one. Others need a combination.

The right starting point depends on the current condition of the books.

What happens when you contact Hatchers Bookkeeping?

We start with a conversation about your business, your current bookkeeping process, and what isn’t working.

If it appears that I can help, the next steps may include:

1. Reviewing your QuickBooks Online file
2. Identifying cleanup or ongoing needs
3. Defining the scope of work
4. Providing clear pricing
5. Establishing a practical timeline

The goal is to understand the condition of the books before recommending a service.
