The Agency of Administration, Department of Disabilities, Aging and Independent Living (DAIL) and Vermont Department of Health (VDH) are seeking feedback on a Proposed Process for the development of a Vermont Action Plan for Aging Well. A broad array of Vermonters interested in creating an age-friendly state are encouraged to respond, including older Vermonters and their families, adults with disabilities and their families, local government officials, health care and other service providers, employers, community-based organizations, foundations, academic researchers, and other interested stakeholders. This important document is the plan to support elder Vermonters and their plans to age well. Your comments are most appreciated.

FSD Covid Caregivers Special Message
Newport Family Services β’ Dept for Children and Families, Vermont
Announcement
After almost a full year of sheltering in place, the Family Services Division continues to work hard at anticipating the needs of foster caregivers and the children they are caring for.
The volume of COVID-19 cases in Vermont is currently on the decline. With the new variant strains of COVID-19, it is still critically important to maintain our vigilance to ensure the health and safety of all Vermonters. On February 16, 2021, Governor Phil Scott extended the Stay Home, Stay Safe order to March 15, 2021. We hope that all children and youth in DCF custody will be able to remain in the setting they are in today as we continue to navigate this pandemic.
A number of individuals (both current foster parents and community members) have come forward offering to provide emergency/back-up/ or temporary care to support a child or youth who needs to leave their current placement setting due to COVID. We have maintained a roster of homes willing to provide care to a child or youth who may be positive for COVID since the beginning of the pandemic. A recent review of this roster indicated that a number of families have had a change in circumstances and are no longer available to provide this type of care. We are looking to grow the roster of homes willing to care for a child or youth who has been exposed to OR has tested positive for COVID.
We are turning to our community again, to see if you could consider your capacity to temporarily provide care to this very vulnerable group. Thank you to those of you who responded to our first outreach. Foster Parents have done a herculean job managing COVID. We have had very few children or youth in foster home settings impacted by COVID. We have learned more about the virus over time and we are encouraged to know vaccines are on the way.
We are recruiting safe adults, who are able to care for a child/youth under the following circumstances:
β’ The child/youth has tested positive for COVID -19
β’ The child or youth has been exposed to COVID and must quarantine
β’ The child/youth requires a level of isolation
We are looking for caregivers who:
β’ Have a desire to support a child/youth who is likely feeling scared and vulnerable; and
β’ Fall into a low-risk category themselves due to age or health status; and
β’ Are able to meet foster care licensing standards; and
β’ optimally have space in their home that could support a level of isolation
Training for how to properly care for child who has tested positive for COVID-19 and Personal Protective Equipment will be made available. Caregivers will receive a stipend for the care they provide.
If you believe you have the capacity to provide for a child who requires this type of care, please click here to share your contact information. A member of the Family Services team will follow up with you promptly.
