On Jan. 25, 2024, Wilmington University held their groundbreaking ceremony for the new Convocation Center and a School of Law located at the Brandywine Campus. Apex Engineering Incorporated is grateful to be a part of the continued growth of Wilmington University and this long-awaited expansion. Buildings are targeting a 2025 completion date. Congratulations to all those involved in this exceptional project!

Congrats to Patrick Cantlay as “the first player in PGA TOUR history to win a FedExCup Playoff event in back-to-back years and the first winner to repeat as champion since Nick Price in 1993-94.” Wonderful and exciting BMW Championship event this past week at Wilmington Country Club. Course looked beautiful as always! What a great representation the club was for the State of Delaware on the world’s stage. Apex is truly grateful to have been a part of shaping the club grounds over the years through our site, stormwater management design and engineering expertise.

The most important thing to know about Wilmington Country Club is that they have been a client of APEX for almost 25 years! Our team has helped the club design its own onsite irrigation system which doubles as stormwater management for the 335 acre property located on Kennett Pike in Wilmington, DE. As part of the master design plan for future improvements, Apex increased the volume of the existing irrigation pond storage. This was accomplished through the enlargement of the existing main irrigation pond and by dredging the bottom of the existing pond. These tasks were carried out while the clubhouse and golf course remained open for the club members’ benefit. Our team performed a topographic survey of the site and prepared a lines and grades plan showing the design of the revised pond. The project also included the relocation of utilities and erosion and sediment control plan. This job also included permitting for the re-construction of the north course including, erosion and sediment control design.

Apex has also worked with the club on the 20,000 square foot addition to the clubhouse and with planning and site design for future improvements. Some of these improvements include the new building housing two indoor tennis courts, with the option for a third indoor court, new connections between the existing locker rooms and indoor pool, between the indoor basketball/golf driving building and the existing three indoor courts, and additional paved walkways and reconstruction of existing walkways.

The second stop in the FedExCup Playoffs goes to The First State, as the BMW Championship arrives at Wilmington (Del.) Country Club. While the course has more than a century of history and has hosted a variety of high-level events, this will be the first time the PGA TOUR visits.
