What fun to go to MassHousing to speak with the 2026 interns about Leadership. Thaddeus Miles coordinates this group of undergraduate and graduate students for 12 weeks each summer as they learn about the housing challenges in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. I started out asking them to write down their core values, then guided them to notice what happens to their bodies under pressure and stress through the Leadership Embodiment centering practice. One element of Leadership I highlighted is Critical Consciousness. How do you develop critical consciousness? Reflect on your socialization and identities and how they shape your ability to see and understand injustice and inequality. Second, develop motivation and beliefs that enable you to intervene and take action to change an injustice. The sooner you understand where you have power and privilege, the easier it is to be a leader grounded in justice principles and practices. I am grateful as a white bodied privileged woman to have been exposed to acute injustices early in life. It forced me to reckon with inequalities and wonder why I had a home to walk into and the people around me on my street corner didn’t. .

Coaching is being redefined. The question is no longer whether AI will play a role, but how we use it responsibly and effectively.

This past year I had the honor of being a Lead Coach for the FRIENDS Leadership Institute, a year long program for leaders of Community-Based Child Abuse Prevention (CBCAP) organizations across the country. I coordinated the coaching team and supported two amazing Parent Advisory Council members and community organizers as they deepened their prevention and systems change skills throughout the child and family well-being system.
Highlights of this year were:
▪️ The creative heart filled gatherings we had in July 2025 and May 2026 which included
▫️ Learning more about Blue Zones
▫️ Facilitating after Dr. Jessica Houston’s presentation on Self-Leadership and Well-Being.
▫️ Unpacking the distinctions of Influence without Authority
▫️ A session I led on Leadership Embodiment: Self-Care is Community Care
▪️ Cheering on Jo Modeste as she created a Nurting Mind, Body and Soul Retreat for parents and caregivers. She had a vision, got funding and organized this incredible day for 27 parents in Bloomfield, CT.
▪️ Holding space for Elizabeth Reddick to continue to step into her wisdom and identity as a healer and advocate for herself and others.
I will deeply miss this community. If you know people in the child-abuse prevention world, support and love them. These are not easy times and leaders in the CBPAC world need our support.

Who knew in 2015 that by the end of 2025 I would have taught over 40 programs for Harvard’s Division of Continuing Education Professional and Executive Development?

Leadership Coaching Strategies was the first program I co-created to support managers as they improved their coaching skills. After a few years and increasing demand, I created Executive Leadership Coaching for more seasoned coaching professionals who want to sharpen their saw. Both courses continue to be popular and grow. I have also coached hundreds of women through Harvard’s Women in Leadership program and designed one of the Managing Yourself and Leading Others program. In the custom programs, school superintendents have gone through Leadership Coaching Strategies and emerging leaders have become better meeting facilitators through Leading Effective Meetings.

I am honored to provide learning opportunities for hundreds of professionals from all over the world and in all industries through Harvard’s Professional and Executive Development Programs. People care deeply about leadership and want to understand how being a more transformative coach can improve the quality of people’s lives and the culture of organizations in which they lead.
