Saturday we worked with the Seymour Fire Department on the second half of Introduction to Water Rescue. Members donned water rescue suits and protective equipment and practiced skills including survival swimming, throw bags, shallow water crossings and tethered raft operations. Thank you to all the members in attendance and to the Seymour leadership for allowing us to deliver this class.

Saturdays are for lifting heavy things. We spent the day with the Darien Fire Department lifting and stabilizing heavy vehicles with their Paratech Fire & Rescue Equipment. We also worked on controlled movements of passenger vehicles. Thank you to the members for spending another day with us.

Tuesday night we traveled to the North Brunswick Volunteer Fire Department to deliver a make up class on Handling Lithium Ion Incidents. We covered responses for EV’s, micromobility, fires, extrications, new equipment and a whole host of other topics. Thank you to all the members for the enjoyable discussions and hospitality.

After a weekend of rainouts and rescheduling it was good to get back out on the training grounds. We spent Monday night with the Darien Fire Department for part two of our extrication series. Members worked on stabilizing, lifting and cutting side-resting and overturned vehicles. Thank you to all in attendance, we look forward to more work together in the near future.

The four most popular nozzle types and little about each:
1. The HEN nozzle: uses a large droplet blade pattern to quickly cool and contract fire gases while knocking down visible fire with minimal thermal rebound. Improper nozzle pressure is visually apparent.
2. The smoothbore nozzle: uses a solid stream of water to deliver high impact and pe*******on into high heat areas. Improper nozzle pressure is visually apparent.
3. The constant gallonage nozzle: uses a straight or fog stream to deliver a specific GPM at a specified PSI. Improper nozzle pressure is visually apparent.
4. The automatic nozzle: uses a straight or fog stream to deliver an optimum looking stream regardless of flow. A poor GPM stream will look almost identical to a proper GPM stream.

Make an educated decision on your nozzle selection based on needs. Get your hands on several options and see how it behaves with your hose compliment.
