Clean scalers vs. patchwork operators. One makes architecture decisions once and sticks to them. The other decides store by store based on whoever was cheapest that week. Beth Bergmann explains exactly how that difference compounds over time and what it costs you when the next wave of technology arrives. AI in grocery is moving beyond experimentation and into real business impact. How is your organization preparing its infrastructure for the next generation of AI-powered stores?

A recent Grocery Dive article, citing research from FMI, found that many food retailers are already seeing returns from AI investments that improve operations, inventory management, and the customer experience.

Our takeaway at Telaid? AI success depends on more than the application itself. Whether it's computer vision, smart checkout, or store automation, these technologies rely on a strong network foundation. Without reliable connectivity, edge infrastructure, and seamless integration, even the best AI solutions can fall short.

As grocers continue to scale AI, building the right technology foundation will be just as important as choosing the right solution.

Telaid's Chris Patsiga and Jill Zylstra recently spent time with the New England Science & Sailing Foundation (NESS), an organization that empowers students with a love of learning and advances academic opportunities through ocean-based experiential programs.

NESS's STEM-based curriculum uses marine science, sailing, powerboating, and adventure sports as hands-on learning platforms, on and off the water, giving science principles a real-world context students can see and feel. A special thank you to Spike Lobdell, founder of NESS, for his vision in building an organization that has opened up the water to so many students.

Team Telaid is proud that Chris serves on the board of directors, and we're inspired by the amazing work NESS does for students. Along with NESS, Telaid supports national and regional organizations doing incredible work in our communities. Learn more: https://hubs.ly/Q04q9Nrs0 (https://hubs.ly/Q04q9N9p0)

Most retailers know a new workplace safety law is coming. Far fewer have a plan that goes beyond the minimum. Telaid's Jim Brodzik and Wayne Bidwell walk through what the New York Retail Workers' Safety Act actually requires by January 2027 and why the retailers building for the enterprise now will be better positioned when more states follow. PYMNTS recently highlighted how new regulations around self-checkout are prompting retailers to rethink how they invest in store technology.

The bigger question isn't whether self-checkout is staying or going. It's how retailers create stores that are smarter, safer, and more efficient, regardless of how customers choose to check out.

As regulations evolve, we're likely to see increased investment in:
• AI-powered loss prevention
• Computer vision
• Smart queue management
• Mobile tools for store associates
• Store infrastructure that supports both employees and customers

Technology should do more than automate a task. It should improve the entire store operation by helping associates work more efficiently, enhancing the customer experience, and creating stores that can adapt as regulations and consumer expectations continue to evolve.

At Telaid, we help retailers design, deploy, and support the technologies that power modern stores—from networking and AI-enabled solutions to loss prevention, digital infrastructure, and nationwide field services. As store operations become more complex, having the right integration partner can make all the difference.

Want to hear more about what it takes to build a successful retail technology strategy? Watch Beth Bergmann, Chief Strategy Officer at Telaid, discuss one of the biggest mistakes grocery chains make before opening their first store, and learn why building the right technology foundation from day one matters.
