Is it safe to drink while breastfeeding? The short answer, yes. Drinking can be safe in moderation.

What we know is that alcohol levels in breastmilk are the same as blood alcohol levels (breastmilk is made from your blood). Alcohol levels are usually highest in breastmilk 30-60 minutes after drinking and can stay in breastmilk for 2-3 hours (this changes the more you drink).

Can you drink and pump the breastmilk with alcohol out? No. Because breastmilk is made from your blood and your breastmilk and blood will have the same alcohol levels. Therefore, any milk made in this time will still have higher levels of alcohol. It will decrease as the levels in your blood decrease.

Tips
* Breastfeed baby or pump right before drinking. Keep it to one standard drink (you can find more about that in the link below) and feed baby or pump again after 2-3 hours.

* If going out with friends or having a party, sip on your drink and make sure you have plenty of food and water.

* If you are tipsy or drunk, you can hand express or pump to comfort but do not give that milk to baby. Wait until you feel normal to resume normal feeding (and make sure you have a sober adult to care for your baby).

So beautifully true! 💯 😍

“TIPS for supporting partners with breastfed babies.

#5. Take care of her/ them- nourishment, emotional support, encouragement
One of the very best things you can ever give your child (grandchild, niece, nephew) is to support their mother/ parent.

Nurturing her, giving her your support through words and actions is vital to her wellbeing.
Validating her nurturing work, ensuring she is well hydrated (think: bottomless water bottle) and well-nourished all play into her being able to get the sleep and rest she needs.

Learning about the mechanics of breastfeeding, safer shared sleeping, the value of co-regulation, realistic expectations for normal infant and toddler sleep will all help you to find common ground to grow your family.

It is as much your job as it is the breastfeeding mother/ parent’s to learn about life with your baby. Show you care by actively seeking to learn alongside.”

On Valentine’s Day, what better to discuss than oxytocin! Also referred to as the "love hormone".

Oxytocin is a hormone that is released in response to various stimuli, including physical touch and stimulation of the ni***es.

In lactation, oxytocin plays a crucial role in milk production and milk let-down. When a baby suckles at the breast, nerve endings in the ni**le are stimulated, which triggers the release of oxytocin from the brain. Oxytocin then causes the release of milk from the breasts.

In bonding, “oxytocin is released in response to low intensity stimulation of the skin, e.g., in response to touch…” so when baby uses their hands and touches the chest and breast, this also releases oxytocin.

The release of oxytocin during breastfeeding has other benefits, both for mom and baby. For mom- oxytocin promotes feelings of relaxation, calmness, and well-being. For the baby- the release of oxytocin during breastfeeding can promote feelings of comfort, security, and attachment.

Oxytocin is an amazing hormone that plays a critical role in breastfeeding, not only in terms of milk production but also in facilitating the emotional connection between mother and baby.
