We cannot go back in time and change anything in this life; not twenty five years, not ten years, not last year, not yesterday, not five minutes ago. This is a photo of the World Trade Center towers five minutes before the first plane hit the North tower. Life can be altered in a moment.

Please consider helping Joe’s family during this difficult time.

A family catastrophic fund has been opened for Detective Joe Sheteron, who tragically passed away. Joe and his family live in Three Rivers, was a veteran and a Cass County Detective. He lived a life of serving others. He left behind a loving wife, and 3 children. 100% of these funds will go directly to supporting Joe’s wife and children. - Yesterday afternoon, your City of Niles Firefighters were dispatched to the 200 block of N. 7th Street for a reported working residential fire.

Upon arrival, Fire Marshal 67 found a two-story residential structure with heavy fire showing from the Alpha side (front) and reports of four occupants still inside.

Niles Fire crews immediately went into rescue mode. Crews successfully performed a VES (Vent-Enter-Search) rescue, locating and removing an individual from the second-story bedroom window. Two other occupants were able to evacuate themselves from the home.

Niles Township Squad 14 made an aggressive fire attack on the first floor and was also able to rescue 3 cats from the residence.

Unfortunately, there was one fatality in the incident. The fire remains under investigation, and no further details are available at this time.

Responding Departments; Thank you - Niles Township Local 2428, Howard Firefighters, Buchanan City Fire, and Southwestern Michigan Community Ambulance Service.

Did You Know? A Look Inside What SMCAS Does 🚑

When you call 911, an ambulance shows up — but what actually happens next?

Our crews are trained to handle far more than just a ride to the hospital. On any given call, SMCAS paramedics and EMTs may:

🩺 Assess and stabilize patients on scene
💉 Start IVs and administer emergency medications
❤️ Perform CPR and use defibrillators for cardiac emergencies
🫁 Manage airways and provide oxygen support
🩹 Treat traumatic injuries from accidents and falls
📡 Communicate with hospital staff to prepare for arrival
🚨 Transport patients safely and quickly to the right facility

Every call is different, but our goal is always the same: get the right care to you, fast.

Southwestern Michigan Community Ambulance Service is proud to serve our community every day, every hour, every call.

We had a great time at the Howard Branch Library today “cooling down” some kids. They had a blast and were able to take home some free books from Better World Books (it was the Bookmobile if you’re old enough to remember)🙂
We’re thankful for the opportunity to interact with our kids and have some fun with them.
