One of the best days of my life! 17 years ago today I became 1 of 20,420. As a non-drafted free agent I signed after I was finished playing college ball! Within 3 years of playing pro ball I was stepping foot on the mound at the Metro Dome vs the Minnesota Twins. What an experience. I can still recall walking out of the dugout prior to the game starting like I always did to go warm up along the right field line. My family and friends were there to support me. The bill pen was along the line and I know there were fans trying to talk to me but I was so locked in and preparing for the game non of that fazed me! First inning I went 1,2,3 on 3 pop flys to Bobby Kielty, Doug Mientkiewicz and Cory Koskie. I came out of the game after the fifth inning losing 2-1. We ended up winning the game 5-3 in 10 innings!!! Suck an awesome moment.
For young players out there today don’t ever give up on your dreams! Things are possible if you stick it out and don’t listen to the outside noises or haters!
Fast forward 17 years later and I’m about to help grow the game of softball now. The Steel Valley Expos will be hosting our 1st ever softball tryouts. Talk about an exciting time in the Mahoning Valley!
