Memorial Day is more than the unofficial start of summer. It is a day dedicated to honoring and remembering the brave men and women who gave their lives while serving in the United States military.

Over time, the observance grew to honor all American service members who made the ultimate sacrifice in every conflict and war. Memorial Day officially became a federal holiday in 1971, but its purpose has remained the same: remembrance, gratitude, and reflection.

Today, we pause to recognize those sacrifices and the freedoms they helped preserve.
