My love had an idea for this photo at Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte during the Grand Siècle rendezvous. It was such a fun night with something new to see and do at every corner! But of course there were corners more secluded than others, and we took this photo inspired by what it must have looked like for a couple to steal a moment away at a busy party.

It makes me think of the quote: “And I like large parties. They’re so intimate. At small parties there isn’t any privacy.” From the Great Gatsby

Black is a classic color. Historically it has been a difficult color to achieve through dies, making it a luxurious color.
By the end of the Victorian Era it became the standard color of men’s suits, and it had also become incredibly linked to mourning customs thanks for Queen Victoria.
In 1926 Chanel debuted the “little black dress” making it a wardrobe staple even to today.

The suffragists and suffragettes wore white. It allowed them to stand out in a crowd of men in black suits. It was a color that showed up well in black and white photography. White is generally associated with innocence and purity, and therefore they believed wearing it reflected the purity of their cause. White at this point in history in America and Europe was also very much tired to the idea of the white wedding dress, therefore tying the color to femininity. Many suffragists were mocked for being unfeminine so it was a stereotype that they were actively combating.

The Kingdom of Meridies was the 5th kingdom of the Society for Creative Anachronism. This is the kingdom we call home. Our colors are argent and sable, or in modern English white and black. For the opening ceremonies of Gulf Wars, one of our largest inter kingdom events, it is typical for us to wear our kingdom colors as we process in.

I love my wedding dress. It is still one of my absolute favorite dresses that I’ve ever made! I remember just finishing it in my parent’s living room. I showed my mom who was so sweet and supportive through the whole process and then I went to go show my dad in his office. He said “wow princess, you’ve made a masterpiece” I designed it to feel timeless, elegant. I didn’t want to pick one time period or era.

This summer I made another wedding dress, this one was very time specific. It was an early 1860’s wedding dress. My husband and I met at a civil war reenactment and we did an 1860’s vow renewal at the very spot we met 10 years later. It was magical!

We have so much fun being married and time traveling that we think it would be fun it get married in a lot of different time periods! Which one should we get married in next?

Also I cannot think for a more monochrome dress than a wedding dress for day 8.

Blue is one of my go to colors! 💙 it’s one of the first colors I gravitate towards when I’m making an outfit because I haven’t met a blue that looks bad on me yet. I’m pretty sure I’m a “winter” and because I’m so pale and my hair is so dark one of my favorite colors to wear is a dark sapphire blue. What’s your favorite color to wear?

Green is one of those colors in my wardrobe that I really like, but I have to be very intentional about using. When I think about making a dress, usually my 1st thought isn’t green, but then my 2nd or 3rd thought is that it could be. I’ve found some great green fabric too, so more green dresses are in my my future!

I have a lot of Red outfits and not a lot of Orange. My favorite red dress I’ve ever made is my red robe à la francaise. My only Orange piece is my Viking smock. I also have a few dresses vintage dresses, but I only have 1 Orange vintage coat. 🍊 ❤️
