Today we're launching the Mission-Critical Performance Group (MCPG), expanding Fountainhead's capabilities from the operator's console to the control philosophy behind it.

For more than a decade, our customers have trusted us to design and deliver the consoles, technical furniture and AV systems that keep mission-critical operations running. MCPG adds a new layer to that work: human systems engineering that helps organizations plan how their operators, procedures and technology will perform together.

MCPG is built for complex industrial operations, including power generation, oil and gas, specialty chemicals, manufacturing, mining and other process-driven industries. In these environments, alarm loads, control system interfaces and around-the-clock staffing have a direct effect on safety, reliability and production.

That means we can now support these customers earlier in the process, working through alarm philosophy, HMI design, operator workload and shift structure alongside the physical design of the room.

Leading the group is David Lee, CEng, FIChemE, who joins us as Principal Consultant. David brings 40 years of experience, projects in about 40 countries, and decades of work on the standards that guide our industry. He serves on the ISA Executive Board and is slated to become ISA President in 2028.

"A control room can meet every dimension on the drawing and still let operators down," David says. "Our job is to work through those issues while there is still time to design around them."

MCPG services include:
Operator performance and workload studies
Alarm management (ISA-18.2 / IEC 62682)
High-performance HMI design (ISA-101)
Fatigue risk management (API RP 755)
Control room design aligned with ISO 11064
Training in HMI, alarm management and operator performance

Customers can engage MCPG on its own, starting with a workshop or a gap analysis of an existing facility. They can also carry its recommendations straight through to Fountainhead's turnkey delivery: consoles, technical furniture, AV integration and raised flooring. Either way, it's one team from planning through installation.

In complex operations, a well-designed control room is only the starting point.

In complex control rooms like oil and gas, power generation, chemical processing, manufacturing and more, the outcome of a critical moment rarely comes down to the console alone. It comes down to whether the one alarm that mattered stood out from the dozens that didn't. Whether the operator was ten hours into a shift. Whether the HMI made the next action obvious or buried it three screens deep.

Operator performance, human-machine interfaces, alarm management, fatigue risk, team design, organizational change and the physical environment don't operate in silos. They shape each other, and the gaps between them are where risk, inefficiency and unnecessary complexity build up.

A lot of great ideas start in the FCR Experience Center.

Lately, that's meant a lot of time in our conference area with Tyler Danielson, Director of Technology, talking through current projects, the latest developments in AV, where AI is headed, and what all of that means for the future of mission-critical environments.

Tyler brings more than 15 years of mission-critical AV experience to the Fountainhead Control Rooms, Inc. team, but what makes these conversations valuable isn't just talking about technology, it's figuring out how technology, people, and processes come together to create better control room environments.

It's these conversations that continue to shape how we approach every mission-critical environment we design.
