🚨 Never pay to get paid. Spot this job scam!

𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐒𝐜𝐚𝐦 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬
An unsolicited text or direct message offers online work, such as rating products, reviewing businesses, clicking on ads, or completing repetitive tasks. The job seems legitimate, and you may even get paid at first. As you complete more tasks, your supposed earnings increase exponentially.

This is a typical task-based employment scam.

When you try to withdraw the money, the scammers may demand additional payments for fees, taxes, or account verification. Ultimately, you are blocked from being able to withdraw the funds and are left without pay and the money you paid out.

The earnings displayed on the platform are fake. When you try to withdraw the money, the scammers may demand additional payments for fees, taxes, or account verification. Ultimately, you are blocked from being able to withdraw the funds and are left without pay and the money you paid out.

Finding a job can be tough, and scammers know it. Employment scams were the 2nd riskiest scam for individuals in 2025, according to the latest BBB Scam Tracker Risk Report. In recent years, BBB has seen an increase in task-based job scams in which victims perform tasks and are paid online but eventually are asked to use their own money for a variety of purposes.

These schemes are often perpetrated by a team of people: the person who interviews you, the person who hires you, perhaps even a coach who will onboard you. In some cases, victims report being put on a team who urges you to continue if you voice doubts or note a red flag.

Never pay to get paid. Legitimate employers will not require you to deposit money or cryptocurrency to complete tasks or withdraw earnings.

Proceed with caution with unexpected job offers. Be cautious of recruiters who contact you unexpectedly through text messages, WhatsApp, social media, or other messaging platforms.

Research the job. Verify the company and job opening independently before accepting an offer or completing any tasks.

Be wary of too-good-to-be-true employment opportunities. Offers of high pay for simple tasks such as rating products, liking content, or “optimizing” apps are a warning sign.

Know about fake check tactics. A common tactic used by scammers is to send you an official check for training or office equipment and urge you to deposit and transfer the funds from your account quickly, only to find out the check is bad.

Have you or someone you know been a target of this kind of scam? Report it here: https://www.bbb.org/scamtracker
