For some Nebraska families, caregiving is already a full-time part of life. But did you know some of that care may qualify as paid employment?

Nebraska's LRI Personal Care program allows qualifying parents and spouses to be paid for care they're already providing at home. And when employed through Safe at Home, eligible employees may also have access to benefits like health, dental and vision insurance, paid sick leave and a 401(k).

Our latest At the Table takes a closer look at who may qualify, how the program works and where to start.

Read it here:

For many Nebraska families, caregiving isn't something that starts when someone clocks in for a shift. It starts when a parent helps a child with daily tasks that other children their age can do independently. It's a spouse helping with dressing, bathing or mobility. It's arranging appointments, mana...

Happy Labor Day from all of us at Safe at Home.

We're especially thankful for the people whose work happens quietly in homes all across Nebraska. The caregivers helping with breakfast. The daughter checking in before work. The neighbor bringing over supper. The spouse who's been doing this for years.

A whole lot of important work never happens behind a desk.

We see you, and we hope there's a little rest in your day too.

“How do I know when it's time to get some help?”

There usually isn't one big moment.

It's more often a bunch of small things: meals getting skipped, laundry piling up, a shower feeling less safe, family members doing more and more, or someone spending too much time alone.

You don't have to wait until there's a crisis to ask questions.

We put answers to some of the questions we hear most often in one place:

Pull up a chair. We’ve got something new to share.

We’ve added a new space to the Safe at Home website called At the table.

The name has a little history behind it. Safe at Home began with a conversation around a dinner table, and it seemed only fitting to keep the conversation going.

This is where we’ll talk about in-home care, family caregiving, resources, our communities and some of the questions that come up when someone you love needs a little extra help.

We’re starting with something pretty important to us: what it really means when we say Safe at Home is local.

We have officially entered the Brrrrrrrrr! months! 🍂🥶

September is here, the mornings are getting cooler and another Safe at Home newsletter is ready to go!

This month, we’re celebrating our Caregivers of the Month, recognizing some pretty impressive attendance milestones and welcoming new faces to the Safe at Home team.

Grab a cup of coffee, find a cozy spot and take a few minutes to see what’s happening around Safe at Home. 💙

September always feels like a reset. School is back, summer schedules settle down and routines start looking normal again.

It's also a good time to check in with an older parent or loved one about how things are really going at home.

Not a big sit-down conversation. Just ask.

What's getting harder?
What do you wish you had help with?
What would make the week easier?

Sometimes that's where the most useful conversation starts.

There’s just something about a good game of Bingo. Especially when you get to spend it with some pretty great company. ❤️

Stacy had the chance to call Bingo at the Joy Center and judging by the tables, there were plenty of folks ready to keep her honest!

We love opportunities like this. Getting out, visiting, laughing and spending time with people in the communities we serve is one of the best parts of what we do.

Thanks to the Norfolk Senior Citizens Joy Center for having Stacy and to everyone who joined in. We’re already looking forward to the next excuse to get together.

Local people. Local connections. Care that feels a little more like family.

A long weekend has a way of bringing families together, which also means you may notice things you don't catch during a quick phone call.

Is the fridge a little emptier than usual? Is the house harder to keep up with? Is Mom moving more carefully? Does Dad seem a little more tired?

None of those things automatically mean there's a problem. They're just worth noticing.

Enjoy the weekend. Eat something good, stay awhile and pay attention to the little things. 😊

Sometimes people hear “in-home care” and picture someone needing help with everything.

Most of the time, it isn't that simple.

Maybe Mom is doing fine with most things but showering has become a little scary. Maybe Dad could use help with meals and laundry. Maybe the house is getting harder to keep up with. Or maybe someone just needs another person around for a few hours.

Care can be a little help or a lot of help. It should fit the person, not the other way around.
