Still searching for a geosteering role that fits your life, not just your resume?

MCWL Paladin Geological has an opening for a Geosteering Geologist, 100% remote, contract based. You'll work 12 hour shifts on a 10 to 14 day rotation, sometimes overnight, analyzing live geologic and drilling data, building geosteering models, and staying in constant contact with field crews while laterals are being drilled.

Here's what gets you in the door: at least 2 years of geosteering experience, comfort working in StarSteer (bonus points for ZoneVu), and a degree in Geology or Geosciences, a Master's is a plus but not required. Worked across more than one U.S. basin? Even better. You'll need your own hardware and a reliable home workspace to make this work.

It's easy to think of oil and gas as just one energy option among many, something that could be swapped out once something better comes along. But once you look at what this industry actually touches, the picture gets a lot bigger.

Planes don't fly without it. Farms don't run without it. Roads, hospitals, factories, and the device you're reading this on all depend on it in some way. It's not a niche industry propping up one product. It's the foundation underneath a lot of others.

None of that happens without someone finding what's underground and understanding it well enough to bring it up the right way. That's the real work, precision, data, and judgment built over decades in the field.

Emily grew up in this industry, working alongside her father, and learning about geology from a very young age. She earned her degree in Petroleum Geology from Western Colorado University and later added an MBA in Energy. Her career was built from the ground up, moving from account manager to CFO before stepping into the CEO role.

Emily has never been afraid to take risks. Every step up meant taking on more responsibility in an industry that doesn’t leave much room for hesitation. That same leadership has been a core reason MCWL has been able to scale, pairing new technology like RockPORE with the 35 years of experience that got us here.

MCWL Paladin Geological is hiring a Geosteering Geologist, remote, work-from-home contract position.

This isn't a desk job. You'll be in the middle of real-time decision-making, analyzing live geologic and drilling data, building geosteering models, and coordinating directly with field personnel while laterals are actively being drilled. Shifts run 12 hours, sometimes overnight, on a 10 to 14 day rotation.

What we're looking for: 2+ years of geosteering experience, proficiency with StarSteer (ZoneVu is a plus), and a Bachelor's degree in Geology or Geosciences, Master's preferred. Experience across multiple U.S. basins is a strong plus, along with solid problem-solving and communication skills. You'll need to provide your own hardware and workspace.

Take a look around you right now. Your phone case. Your glasses. The clothes you're wearing. The packaging your last delivery came in. Chances are, more of it than you'd expect traces back to oil and gas.

It's easy to think of this industry as just gas in a tank, but that's a small piece of the picture. Oil and gas is in the plastics that make up everyday products, the materials that go into medical devices, the fibers in a lot of the clothing we wear, and the packaging that keeps goods safe from the warehouse to your front door. It's part of the infrastructure of daily life, whether people realize it or not.

That's why the work happening at wellsites like this one matters more than most people think about. Before any of those products exist, someone has to find what's underground, understand it, and know how to bring it up safely and efficiently. That's not guesswork. It's formation evaluation, real-time monitoring, and a lot of experience reading what the rock is telling you.

That's exactly what mudlogging catches. Real-time monitoring at the wellsite turns those early signals into data crews can act on immediately, not read about in a post-incident report. A gas spike. At MCWL, onboarding runs on structure. Every new hand starts in a defined training window, working alongside our experienced crews on real tasks: prepping samples, entering data, keeping records straight, all of it checked before it goes out. Nobody gets counted as fully responsible for a job until they've proven themselves through it.

Our lead hands stay in control of interpretation and operator communication while new team members support that work. We spread training duties across the roster so no single crew carries the full load of breaking in a new hire, and we track who's ready to work independently and where a lead still needs to be beside them.

We also take placement seriously. We learn where our people actually want to work and where their strengths fit best, because a crew that's well matched stays steady and productive long after that first tour. It's how we keep service consistent for operators, even when the roster is always changing.
