The Fire Chief has decided to amend today’s no burn day and allow burning for the rest of the day. Residents zoned agricultural for burning would still need follow instructions on our website (which is being updated now) to obtain a burn permit.

The burn ban impacting Cleveland County for much of August and all of September has not been extended. Beginning tomorrow morning, we will return to our normal process for issuing burn permits for those who qualify, dependent on wind speeds staying no higher than 13mph and humidity at 40% or above.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

UPDATE - 7:15 AM 9/25/26: Utilities staff report that water towers are back to normal operating range. Residents can return to normal odd/even outdoor irrigation schedules. (Under an odd/even outdoor irrigation schedule, properties with addresses ending with an odd number may water on odd-numbered calendar days; properties with addresses ending with an even number may water on even-numbered calendar days.) Motorists are still advised to avoid Robinson around 24th NE as roadway access will be limited due to large repair equipment in the area.

UPDATE - 8:29 PM 9/24/26: The broken line has been isolated for further repair. A smaller parallel line is open to ensure water access for the community. Water conservation is requested until further notice. Outside irrigation and unnecessary water use should be avoided. Water tower capacity decreased significantly during this event and conservation measures will quicken restoration, while ensuring an adequate supply of water remains available for firefighting and life safety measures. Portions of Robinson are expected to remain closed through the night and alternate routes are advised. City of Norman employees working at facilities in the area will be able to gain access, as will residents of the Frost Creek development.

POSTED 7:20 PM 9/24/26: Crews are responding to a major waterline break in East Norman. A portion of Robinson east of 24th Avenue NE has been closed. Customers may experience water pressure issues at this time. Water conservation is requested for all Norman customers. Repairs will be carried out as quickly as possible. 9/15/26 - 1:40pm
Multiple units responded to a fully involved structure and grass fire in east Norman in the vicinity of 84th Ave SE and E State Hwy 9. The grass fire has been knocked down and crews continue to work the structure. Two adults, two children and two cats were all successfully evacuated from the structure. There have been no casualties and no injuries. The cause is under investigation.

Last night was our turn to host the class of 2026 Citizen's Academy at Fire Station 9. Participants learned about the history and operations of the Norman Fire Department and and were offered an opportunity to be a little more hands on as well. Thanks for coming out!
