Anneal Business Coaching Annealing is an industrial process that reduces stress and increases performance in materials. I am c Martin Holland is the son of a successful entrepreneur.

He grew up hearing about margins and markets, R&D and sales, risk and return on investment. He learned to love the language and rigors of business and grew to believe that business is both the most human of all endeavors and the highest calling. After selling a company in 2011, Martin became a coach in order to help other owners build profitable businesses that do not require their day-to-day invo

lvement. Prior to becoming a business coach, Martin operated a group of Nebraska grain elevators. After leaving the grain industry, he helped create seven businesses across a broad range of industries. Two of the businesses did not survive, three of them sold, and he and his wife still own two. His experience has taught him that there are principles common to successful businesses and omissions common to failed businesses. A native of Norman, Martin earned a B.A. degree from Hastings College in Hastings, Nebraska and a Masters in Business Administration degree from the University of Oklahoma. Over the past 7 years he has written business plans that have raised over $52.4 million in bank and investor financing. He has helped 157 (and counting) business owners reduce stress and increase performance through clarity of purpose, better marriages, more money, and more free time away from the business. Martin spends his free time painting with oils and doing long-distance bicycle rides. He and Diane, his wife of 39 years, have lived in Norman since 1986, where Diane is the owner of Holland Pediatric Therapy LLC. They have three children: Nicholas, a Captain in the US Army, Lara, a small business owner in Colorado and Kaitie, who just earned a master’s degree in international studies from the University of Oklahoma.

Aiming for 30% profit isn't always progress. Without a serious plan, ambitious targets get abandoned—or achieved at a cost that destroys what steady growth would have built. That's how strong companies quietly weaken.

MAKING IT HARD DOESN’T FILTER BAD PROSPECTS.

It filters busy ones.
Amazon didn’t improve trust with the Buy Now button. They removed friction. If your process is convenient for you but hard for them - hello. You’re paying for it in lost sales.

Worth checking your next step?

A BUSINESS EXISTS FOR ONE PURPOSE: TO TURN CASH INTO MORE CASH

It may do wonderful things both within and outside of its doors, but it does nothing without cash.

I coached a business owner who was overwhelmed by uncertainty. The real issue wasn’t his decision-making.
It was the information he was using to make decisions.

We corrected his numbers, and the pressure dropped.
He could see the truth. Clearly, Profitable decisions became simple. Clear information changes everything.

How do you rank the information in your business?

MOST BUSINESS PROBLEMS COME FROM THREE MISSING PIECES.

When I sit with a business owner, I ask three questions that reveal everything:

What do you want?
Where do your customers come from?
How much do you have to sell to break even?

The answers usually expose the same pattern:
You’re strong at doing the work…
but the business is missing vision, systemized sales, or solid administrative habits.

And without those, the pressure never stops.

You don’t need to be great at all four areas.
But your company does.

Because businesses don’t fail from lack of effort —
they fail from lack of clarity.

EVERY BUSINESS GETS JUDGED THE MOMENT A CUSTOMER LOOKS AT THEIR OPTIONS.

And if they don’t see a meaningful difference, they go straight to price.

That’s where most small businesses get trapped. Not because they’re bad at what they do, but because they’ve never answered the real question: Why should someone buy from you?

After 45 years of coaching owners, I’ve learned this: your customers don’t buy features. They buy outcomes.

One contractor believed “durability” was his selling point. But his true advantage was keeping customers on schedule and protecting their reputation. Once he claimed it, everything changed.

Finding your USP isn’t about clever words. It’s about understanding the pain or desire that drives your customers.

YOU DON’T OWN A BUSINESS IF IT COLLAPSES THE DAY YOU’RE NOT THERE.

Most owners are still trading time for money — they just do it in a nicer office.

A paycheck rewards your labor.
A distribution rewards your ownership.

The shift happens when you stop being the hub of the wheel.
When every decision depends on you, the business can’t grow.
And it definitely can’t run without you.

But when you build systems…
And teach your team to carry the work…
You create leverage.
You get your life back.
And the business finally takes care of you.

This is the difference between owning a job… and owning a real company.

Many subcontractors don’t realize what’s hidden in the contracts they sign.

The right to file a lien is one of the most powerful tools you have to collect money that’s owed.
But some general contractors are asking subs to waive lien rights in their contracts.

Before you sign away your right to file a lien lien waiver, get advice from a qualified contract attorney.
Protect the work you’ve already done.
Protect the cash you’ve already earned.

MOST BUSINESS OWNERS ARE TRYING TO RUN THEIR BUSINESS FROM MEMORY.

You can be smart, talented, and hardworking…
and still not know where your cash went.

Gut feeling is not a financial system.
Bank statements don’t tell you whether you’re making money.

If you can’t see the full picture — sales, margins, profit, assets, liabilities, and cash —
you are guessing.

And guessing is exhausting.

You don’t need to learn accounting.
You only need proper financial reports, arranged the right way, so you can make decisions with confidence.

When the numbers are right, the stress goes down.
Every decision gets easier.
