These caterpillars feed on grass blades and can leave behind thinning, brown patches that seem to spread almost overnight. Late summer is a common time to see increased activity, so if your lawn suddenly looks like something has been chewing its way through it, armyworms may be the culprit.

Did you know mosquito larvae eat what’s floating in the water?

Mosquito larvae are filter feeders. They feed on tiny particles of bacteria, algae, fungi, and other organic matter suspended in the water.

When Bti, a naturally occurring soil bacterium, is added to a mosquito breeding site, mosquito larvae ingest it while feeding. The Bti produces protein toxins in the larvae’s gut damaging their digestive system preventing them from feeding and stopping them before they can develop into biting adult mosquitoes.

Of course, only treating standing water won’t adequately reduce the mosquito populations at most homes, which is why we pair larvae control with adult mosquito control methods.

Today is World Mosquito Day!

Observed every year on August 20, World Mosquito Day marks the 1897 discovery that mosquitoes play a major role in transmitting malaria. Today, it’s also a reminder of the impact these tiny pests can have by spreading diseases like West Nile virus, dengue, Zika, and more.

It’s a good day to remember that mosquito control is about more than avoiding itchy bites. It’s also about protecting our families, pets, and communities.
