Gerald "Jerry" Lawson

Also known as the Father of Modern Gaming

Jerry Lawson was a self taught video gaming engineer. Lawson helped to develop the very first video game cartridge to be sold commercially. Think back to the old school Nintendo days, when you had to slow inside the game in order for it to work properly. Believe it or not, this was once considered revolutionary technology. Jerry forever changed the way we play video games and deserves recognition as even today, African Americans make up less than 3% of all video game developers.

Carter G. Woodson The Father of Black History

Woodson, a well educated black man, is often credited as the first individual to study Black History. He devoted most of his life to his historic research. Not only was he a historian, but he was an author and journalist as well.

In 1926, Woodson began his campaign to celebrate the second week of February as Negro History Week. This idea was later expound upon and the month of February was designated Black History Month.

Elijah McCoy AKA The REAL McCoy

Elijah McCoy was a black inventor of the late 1800 and early 1900. Throughout his lifetime, McCoy secured dozens of patents for his inventions. Most notably, McCoy developed an automated lubricator that distributed oil in train engines while the train was moving. This saved both time and money because it allowed trains to run extended periods of time without requiring the conductor to stop.

There were numerous attempts to imitate this invention, but none were successful as railway engineers continued to request the original design. This is where the term "the real McCoy" was coined.
