Backup batteries lose capacity in extreme cold and degrade steadily under sustained heat — and a battery that tested fine eighteen months ago may not carry your system through a multi-hour outage today. Camera housings collect condensation, ice, or salt residue depending on where you sit. Outdoor connections loosen through freeze-thaw cycles or corrode in humidity. 📞 It's 2:14 AM, and your alarm goes off. The monitoring center calls the first name on your contact list. That person left the company three years ago.
They call the second name. The number changed when she switched carriers. The third name answers, but he's four hours out of town and isn't sure who else to reach.
This is one of the most common failure points in commercial security, and it has nothing to do with equipment. The system worked exactly as designed. The response chain didn't.
Call lists get built once during installation and then go quietly stale. People leave. Roles shift. Numbers change. Nobody revisits it, because the list only gets used at the precise moment when nobody's thinking clearly.
Fixing it takes about fifteen minutes. Request your current call list from your monitoring provider. Verify every name, every number, and every person's authority to make decisions.
