Good Morning,
Dorchester County Emergency Management and our key stakeholders are closely monitoring Invest 94L (future Imelda) which is currently forecast to become a Tropical Depression in the vicinity of the central and northwest Bahamas in a couple of days.
Current trends and recent data highlight the need for all residents of The Lowcountry to pay close attention to this system as it develops over the next few days. We do not post ensemble forecasts or those Italian noodle maps, but will share official forecasts when they become available!
At this time, the exact track and impacts we may see from this system (if any) are uncertain. If we were to see any impacts the current likely timing would be early next week.
What Everyone Should Be Doing:
❗️Talk to your family and friends about the hazards associated with Tropical Weather (inland flooding, storm surge, wind, and tornadoes). Hurricane.sc is a GREAT resource for learning all about these hazards and their associated watches and warnings
❗️Update your Emergency Kit! No matter if the storm ends up impacting Dorchester County or not, you should have a stocked and ready emergency kit throughout hurricane season. Hurricane.sc is a GREAT resource to learn all about what should go into your kit!
❗️PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR TRUSTED WEATHER SOURCE UNTIL ALL OF THIS IS OVER. If that is our account...great! If that is US National Weather Service Charleston SC...great! If that is NOAA NWS National Hurricane Center...great! If that is your favorite local news channel...great! You get the point!
❗️DO NOT PANIC PLEASE. Again, we are still unsure if we will even see any major impacts from this system...but we will continue to update you with the latest info so you can make informed decisions every step of the way.
In summary...we should all be paying attention to this system and ensuring our family and friends are performing the basics of hurricane preparedness mentioned above. Oh...and did I mention that hurricane.sc is a GREAT resource for all of you to check out?!?
LAST BUT NOT LEAST...Join me in the comments section below as I encourage people to, "Stay calm and stay informed!" Don't forget to add in a GIF that relaxes you and/or makes you happy for some bonus points!
