Double check that your generator has a bright green light on it, and it has been running its weekly, biweekly, monthly exercises! Don’t hesitate to give us a call if you see that scary red light!

Good Afternoon Everyone,

The NOAA NWS National Hurricane Center (NHC) has begun issuing advisories for our first potential tropical cyclone of the season (PTC 1), and along with it, we have our first cone graphic... everyone's favorite!

PTC 1 is forecast to reach tropical storm strength when it moves over the Gulf, which should result in our first named storm of the season, Arthur!

We are not anticipating any direct impacts from this storm. However, we could see an increase in moisture later this week associated with Arthur, which could result in increased shower and thunderstorm activity.

Use Arthur as a reminder that hurricane season has begun! Take the time to discuss or create your emergency plan with your family and update or build an emergency kit for the season.

You can find tons of great information and resources by visiting hurricane.sc or by picking up a 2026 Hurricane Guide at any Dorchester County Library!

We will keep ya updated as necessary. Have a great rest of your day!

Hurricane Season forecasts are calling for a below average / average hurricane season this year. Though they are interesting reads, let me show ya why these forecasts shouldn’t matter too much when it comes to hurricane preparedness.

2020 was the most active season on record, in terms of number of storms. That year, there were 30 tropical storms, 14 hurricanes, and 7 major hurricanes!

1989 was a below average hurricane season. That year, there were 11 tropical storms, 7 hurricanes, and 2 major hurricanes!

If you know anything about 1989 in the Lowcountry you know that 1989 was a VERY active hurricane season even though the statistics might tell another story. Yep, Hurricane Hugo made landfall in the Lowcountry in September of 1989.

The record 2020 hurricane season basically had 0 impacts in SC...meaning a below average hurricane season was far worse than the record hurricane season.

Thank you for coming to my TED talk...now go talk to your family about hurricane preparedness and build an emergency kit!

Even with all this pollen caking everything in yellow, we still want to give your generator a spring makeover.
