An extended period of dangerous heat is expected across Maryland through Sunday, July 5, with daytime temperatures approaching or exceeding 100°F and heat index values potentially rising above 110°F.

Older adults, young children, individuals with chronic medical conditions, and those who work or spend extended time outdoors are at the greatest risk for heat-related illness. This first prolonged heatwave of the summer can be especially dangerous, as many people have not yet acclimated to the extreme temperatures.

Please remember to:
• Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
• Limit outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
• Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing.
• Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle.
• Check on elderly family members, neighbors, and anyone who may be vulnerable.

While widespread power outages are not anticipated, increased air conditioning use may result in higher energy costs. Local cooling centers may be opened as needed to provide relief for residents.
