Yesterday, our paramedics had the opportunity to spend time with our Medical Director, Dr. Grahl from SSM Health St. Agnes Hospital, for hands-on training focused on the use of ultrasound in emergency medicine.

Our paramedics currently have a limited scope of practice for point-of-care ultrasound in the field, specifically for use during cardiac arrest. While our prehospital application is limited, this training provided an excellent opportunity to learn more about the broader capabilities of ultrasound in a hospital setting and to gain a better understanding of how it can be used to visualize different structures and areas of the body.

Continuing education and hands-on training are essential to providing the highest level of care to our community. We appreciate Dr. Grahl taking the time to share his knowledge and expertise with our team!

🚒 Fill the Boot – Supporting the Muscular Dystrophy Association

Members of Union Local 4912 will be out in the community on Wednesday supporting the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) through the annual Fill the Boot campaign.

We’ll be at the intersection of Prospect Ave. and Winnebago St. during the following times:

🕢 7:30 AM – approximately 9:00 AM
🕑 2:30 PM – approximately 4:30 PM

If you’re in the area, we encourage you to stop by and consider making a donation. We will be accepting cash donations, and we’ll also have a QR code available that will take you directly to MDA’s donation page for those who prefer to donate electronically.

Does it smell like smoke outside? You’re not imagining it.

The smoky conditions across our area are the result of ongoing wildfires in northern Minnesota and Canada. Smoke from these fires is being carried into our region, and air quality is expected to be affected today and tomorrow. The forecast below shows the projected areas that may experience the greatest impacts.

Wildfire smoke can cause respiratory irritation, especially for children, older adults, and individuals with asthma, COPD, or other respiratory conditions. If you spend time outdoors, consider limiting prolonged or strenuous activity if the smoke is noticeable, and monitor for any symptoms such as coughing, shortness of breath, or eye irritation.

Stay informed, take precautions if needed, and keep an eye on local air quality conditions.
