CTEH toxicologists Dr. Sarah Burnett and Dr. Chris Kuhlman recently participated in the Disaster Research Workshop at Texas A&M University. Their sessions supported emerging toxicologists and public health professionals by breaking down how the Incident Command System works, how to approach environmental characterization after natural disasters and chemical events, and how to communicate risk clearly and responsibly.

Throughout the workshop, representatives from the United States Coast Guard, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, the Texas General Land Office, and Texas A&M University joined academic and industry partners to share insights and strengthen coordination, along with several additional organizations committed to improving disaster response.

Dr. Burnett and Dr. Kuhlman emphasized the importance of strong partnerships across academic, industry, state, and federal organizations. Their instruction reinforced how collaboration drives stronger outcomes for worker safety and public health. CTEH remains committed to advancing that work and supporting partners who are preparing for the next challenge.

🔥Let’s talk about fires: https://hubs.ly/Q03RyK8V0

Wildfires are reshaping ecosystems across the country. For CTEH Senior Environmental Consultant Randy Mandel, recovery begins with recognizing that fire, while destructive, is also a natural process that can renew the land when guided by foresight and science.

CTEH’s teams work across the full lifecycle of environmental recovery, from early risk assessments and emergency response to long-term remediation and restoration. By combining ecological expertise with on-the-ground partnership, we help communities and ecosystems regain balance and build resilience for what comes next.

Discover how CTEH is turning environmental science into action by helping landscapes heal, biodiversity thrive, and communities adapt in the face of change.
