From their sketch to my finished graphic! Not many people see the process, just the end result. In the past, we'd done things a lil different, bounced ideas around... This time 'round, Lisa & Chris Eger approached this year's Burnin' with a specific idea in mind and we went right to work.
We used a Caddy last year, so I opted for the Chevy, showed them some available options (stock images) and after approval & a lot of editing, we got the car as you see it.
For the last 3 years, I used a photo of Chris' guitar, one I shot almost 3 years ago to the date. Because of the orientation this year (and me being picky), we reshot the guitar at this angle, allowing shadows to fall correctly. This is also the best the guitar has looked on a Burnin' poster!
I built the background with layers, tinting the sky & surroundings to create the right vibe, added the R66 sign...
The logo this year is a variation of last year's. Once Chris had me adapt the MV from Mount Vernon's flag, it became a keeper. "Burnin'" & "9" are a Fender Strat font, one I've used since (technically) Burnin' 2 (2018).
Fun fact: I originally placed the guitar "sitting" on the hood, close to realistic size. But noooo! Mr. Guitar Hero wanted it bigger! From fin to shining fin! So... I no longer consider it resting on the trunk, but rather ...hovering, closer to the viewer. Yeah, that works.
