David R. Ellspermann, Marion County Clerk and Comptroller, is cautioning citizens against a property deed scheme. This is not new. It seems to roll around every couple of years.

A citizen buys a home or property. The deed is recorded in the Official Records at the Office of the Clerk of the Court. A private company, which is not associated with the Clerk of the Court, gathers the property transfer information and then sends a letter directly soliciting our citizens. The company offers to provide a copy of the deed for $89.00.

There is no reason to use the services of this company, or any other such comparable company when you can get a certified copy of your deed directly from the Clerk’s office for $3.00. In the alternative, since deeds are a public record, citizens can print out a copy of their deed for free from the Clerk’s web-site www.marioncountyclerk.org

Mortgage Foreclosure take place when the homeowners have to failed to pay the mortgage.
Foreclosure surplus is the funds remaining after payment of all disbursements required by the final judgment of foreclosure and shown on the certificate of disbursements. During the 60 days after the clerk issues a certificate of disbursements, the clerk shall hold the surplus pending a court order.
