WHAT THE PHOTOGRAPHS DON’T SHOW. ❤️🚒🚑🚓
Working in the towing and recovery industry, I respond to accidents almost every day throughout Central Maine. I’ve accumulated many photographs from accident scenes, but very few of the first responders themselves.
That’s intentional. When we’re working an accident, my focus is on doing my job and respecting the people involved.
But what those photographs don’t show is often the most important part of the story.
They don’t show the volunteer firefighter who left dinner with their family to respond to an emergency. The EMT who climbed into a wrecked vehicle to help someone. The police officer standing alongside a busy highway, putting their own safety at risk to protect everyone else. Or the dispatcher working behind the scenes to make sure help gets where it’s needed.
They don’t show the exhaustion after a difficult call, the freezing temperatures, the pouring rain, or the middle-of-the-night responses when most of us are sleeping.
But I see those things. Almost every day. And I want these men and women to know that their dedication doesn’t go unnoticed.
Here in Maine, so many of our first responders are volunteers. They give up time with their families, leave their jobs, and sacrifice their own comfort and safety to help complete strangers. They do it without expecting recognition or anything in return.
I’ve had the privilege of working alongside some truly remarkable people. I’ve witnessed their professionalism, compassion, courage, and dedication firsthand.
Most people drive past an accident scene and see flashing lights, emergency vehicles, and damaged cars. I get to see the people behind those lights and the extraordinary work they do.
And I can tell you, our communities are incredibly fortunate to have them.
To our firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, law enforcement officers, dispatchers, and every person who answers the call when someone needs help: You have my deepest respect and gratitude.
To your families, who share in those sacrifices, thank you as well.
From myself and everyone at Wilson’s Towing & Recovery, thank you for everything you do.
We see you. We appreciate you. And we’re proud to work alongside you. 🇺🇸
